Tacho sender

Some time ago, E.P. Barrus, the UK Yanmar importers, could sell me one, but I eventually opted for a much cheaper industrial transducer, but that involved machining an adapter.
Don't know about your part of the world, but the local Yanmar agent should be able to order I'd have thought.
AFAIK, it's a Yanmar "special" and won't be easy to find elsewhere.
Fitting should be straightforward, it's a screw-in job after removing a blanking plug.
Add:- above applies to GM series. Latest engines use the alternator I think.

I purchased a tachometer and sender from my local Yanmar agent in 2007 for my 1GM 10 at a cost of £233.66p. £104 being for the sender. The sender as stated previously is easily fitted by removing the blanking plug and scewing in the sender.

Tiny-Tach

Don't bother with the expensive Yanmar parts, just get a Tiny Tach. Easy to fit, just a mini transducer clamped around the fuel pipe to the injector, and about a fifth of the price of the Yanmar part. In addition to engine speed it also provides total engine running hours and 2 count down timers for jobs eg oil change, anode checks.

Seconded. Now they use flash memory, so no internal battery, absolute bargain at about £65 I think. Very good service from Richard.

I fitted a tachometer to my 2GM20 last year. The Yanmar parts seemed very pricey and I considered a Tinytach but in the end went for a Plastimo gauge at around £60, and a feed from the alternator. My local auto electric shop did the work on the alternator for £18.00. I'm more than satisfied with the results.

I have just order one Tiny Tach, for my Vancouver's 27 Volvo 2002, looks like good replacement instead of unreliable Volvo tach that works only in summer....
