I have a rocker switch I bought from Halfords, it is one of the ones with an internal
light with I guess is supposed to illuminate the switch is in its 'on' position. Sounds fairly simple but I can only get it to show a light when it is 'off'

It has 3 terminals on the back and i've tried just about every combination.. anyone got the answer for me.. surely it can't be that difficult ...??

Thanks Nick

One of the terminals will be a feed the other will be your switched terminal to whatever your controling with it. The las will be a ground or negative for the switch illumination.

Forgive my ignorance but what does the 3rd term do exactly? ie. what do I connect it to.?

I originally assumed that I would just put a link to this 3rd term from the switched side .. but this doesnt do the job

Thanks Nick

Sorry, my ham fisted typing. Should have read "last". Anyway, as you look at the switch, the two outside terminal are the switched pair, while the center one is the negative for the illumination......I think. Best way to check it is connect up the feed from the batt and the thing your wanting to switch. If you bit os equip works, then the last terminal should be grounded or connected to the batt negative.....clear, I hope so.

Now the small print. You use this information at your own risk. The author can take no liability whatsoever, cos basically I haven't seen the switch and I'm not paying for your boat going up in smoke!!!!!!

Sorry just looked at your original post. Lights up when its off, you've connected the switched pair the wrong way round.........sorry.

Should be ok as long as you have the feed to the switch protected by a fuse of the proper rating.......you have haven't you!

I think you have this incorrect, the two outer terminals 'should' be positive and negetive, the middle being your positive switch, the line you take to appliance. I have a switch panel in front of me with these types of switches and this is how it is factory wired.

hope this helps

If you have one connect a mutimeter (with all cables off) across two of the terminals and operate the switch(meter set to "buzz")if it buzzes you have the swiched pair...repeat with other terninals....there clear as mud!!

Thats basically what I said. 2 are switched and the third is a ground or neg for the switch illumination.
