Hi all, I need to bring an 895 Merry Fisher from Swanick Marina west to Poole in a few weeks time. Aside from usual tide streams/tables and wind can anyone share any good tips on this particular passage ?

Be aware of the shallow grounds just east of the dolphin bank, just west of hurst spit. Apart from that it's quite a straight forward trip.

Careful of pots from Calshot to Lepe.

Straight down the Solent out through Hurst.

Needles channel to Bridge cardinal, another 1/2 mile on head for Poole.

On a really nice day go inshore round the bay as there's more to look at.

Suggest use North Channel from Hurst rather than Needles. Head straight for East Looe entrance to Poole. Only bit to give concern is going over Christchurch Ledge with a west going tide and a westerly wind over F4. Can be a bit lumpy.

This is a track of the route I took one time, North Channel round Hurst and East Loe Channel into Poole entrance.
Once you get into Holes Bay make sure you stay in the channel, there's a couple of dog-legs to watch out for but clearly marked by buoys and charts. Very shallow outside the channel.Screenshot_20230212_024819_Boating.jpg

The Needles Channel route can be lumpy over The Bridge, which is the underwater extension of the Needles and Tennyson Down, even in fairly moderate winds, plus the North Channel route Colin has shown is shorter. Avoid cutting in too close to Hurst - the area there called The Trap has that name for a reason.

Agree and stand a little way off the end of Christchurch ledge, it’s infested with pots
