Hi all,

I have a problem with the outboard on my Ski Boat and was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction. My 1992 Suzuki 75 (2 Stroke oil injected) looses power when flat out. The Revs drop by about 350rpm and I loose the top 5mph. It accelerates up all right and then after 5 seconds the speed and power drops off. It has had a full service including Filters etc at the start of the season and was OK then. Any ideas greatly appreciated,

thanks

N.

How about the fuel pump?

Sounds a bit like restricted fuel supply.

I had a similar problem with a Mercury a while back. That was due to vibration!
As the engine revs increased, so did the vibrations. This caused an electrical conection to loosen and intermittently disconnect and reconnect. The net effect was that the revs dropped out. All was fine at lower speeds.

I had a similar problem with my Suzi 100 V4, but a bit more pronounced. In the end, it turned out that two problems had conspired against me.

1) I'd had it it serviced and fitted new plugs. What I didn't know was that one of the plugs was faulty and in turn, this was upsetting the CDI unit. You need a plug tester to ascertain this.

2) I thought that clean filters was it. Not so. Water can (and did) get through filters and in to the float chambers Dirty reddy-brown stuff. Cleaned them out and all was OK.

Finally.....I fitted an in-line separator / filter unit as featured in the readers tips section of the July MBM, page 152.

If you want more details PM me.
