There's no temperature gauge on Bouba's pictures - the last one looks just like NW Scotland where I am at the moment, and it's jolly well not 'baring your bits' weather either!

PS: I know there's a palm tree, but they have those in Plockton...

We had midges a total of twice last year in Scotland, I'm pretty sure it's another lie they tell to keep tourists away just like when they talk about the weather!

I took a boat up to the Dusseldorf show a few years ago and was presented with the most bizarre site..... Chugging along up the Rhine with plenty of marine traffic of all descriptions whizzing about in all directions. There was another yacht coming up astern with a Heath Robinson flag pole rigged where the mast would have been, and from this pole flew a very large and proud German flag. The yacht had a spray hood so we couldn't see the occupants until they were almost alongside.... Bloody hell, they were both starkers! It was early January and we were being overhauled by a wizened old couple on a very busy commercial river with everything on show - spaniel's ears comes to mind.

Her or him?

In the overcrowded Dutch waters I don't. I'm not a streaker. But when I am the only ship on the anchorage I quite enjoy the freedom it gives. I think sailers are on a quest for freedom. And this does fit in.

You think you are alone....but what about all those poor drone pilots ?

They deserve everything they get - including Major Clanger's spaniel's ears.

I've done it once, in an anchorage when no one else was around, but didn't last long, because of the risk of sunburn where the sun don't (usually) shine.

Otherwise, there was a small mobo going through the passage in the submarine barrier off Southsea. The young lady on board had forgotten her bikini top. No spaniels there

Then you were either incredibly lucky, or were there before around mid-June when they appear. You know all about it within minutes of their appearance, and they can get in to even a hermetically sealed cabin/ caravan. Nothing seems to stop them except one particular Avon skin softener used universally by the locals and which you can buy in any general store. Any other deterrent seems to actually attract the blighters. Been there, got the bites.....
