At this time of the year caution needs to be used as strong sudden winds are quite common on the med coast…..more attention to weather forecasts may have been helpful

Weather forecast doesn't weigh enough, you need good heavy ground tackle..even if you carry it about 99% of the time it's worth it for that one occasion.....

Not too far east, I hope. Seriously in my 20+ years in the Eastern Aegean I haven't witnessed that kind of destructive wind. A few years ago there was an alert about a possible Medicane hitting our area but it passed by, well to the west. Don't get me wrong. We get serious storms mainly in Autumn from the south west [Lodos] but they're always well forecast and we have plenty of time to take shelter and batten down.

We previously had an oversized Rocna, but had switched to an oversized Mantus M1 at this stage. It never budged. Every other boat in the anchorage dragged, but fortunately out to sea so hopefully there was no damage.

I've experienced very strong winds as well, but only once when it wasn't forecast, and then it was a sudden squall which lasted around 15 minutes and cleared. Here's a thread I posted a couple of years ago.

Some very nice boats blown on to the shore. A real shame as there were lots of weather warnings well before and the smart sailors left well in time.
