Straining rides

No cycling at all for me this week. However, have walked 4 x 8 miles Monday to Friday by walking to work each day rather than taking the tube and walked 12 miles today and can feel it's done some good. Looking forward to going for a bike ride next weekend though, the rear wheel is now spinning freely after replacing the one with a buggered bearing so will hopefully make things a little easier / faster

Bumped into Superheat6k (Trevor) during todays walk, sorry we couldn't stop too long to talk

Walking only for me as well this week due to yet another flare up of sciatica. Going to start Body Balance and Pilates classes next week in the hope I can find some long term relief. At the moment I can't even sit on a bike. :(

ouch, that sounds painful, hope you get it sorted soon mate. I had the same in the first couple of weeks so started doing some sit ups using one of those ab curl machines to provide support. no back pain now at all, stronger gut = stronger back apparently

Yep, I am hoping that a combination of gentle stretching combined with strengthening core muscles will be the answer. Currently the pain is in my LH butt cheek and runs down the back of my thigh, misses out my calf but ends up with pins and needles in my foot.

Sorry to say no cycling this weekend, roads have remained pretty frosty in the far north here. So 6 mile run yesterday (well, run might be a bit of an exaggeration), and 45 mins on the static cycle in the garage. Cold enough in there too. Will not get much done this week, as away in business.

Us Southern softies have it good, it was icy yesterday - so had the mtb out for a quick spin and just damp this morning so got a few miles in with the club. :)

Serious training Friday evening! Three miles each way at Sue's pace with dinner at a friends house and a couple of bottles of wine in between. Tried to make up for it today with a 600ft climb over Portsdown Hill. I'm starting to enjoy this; could it be those endorphins you hear so much about?

Managed 18 miles today, but my neighbour was laughing her head off at my abnormal gait after getting off the bike.
At least I'm providing entertainment for others.

How can you post this without pics? Seriously my feet and back are suffering most on the roady bike, but this will improve with miles.

liking the commitment from you all here! (i am well behind)

have been spinning 3 times a week for the past fortnight and will do until we go on holiday.. not enough road time for me yet but hopefully as the evenings get lighter that can change.

Ooo. Nice effort :) hills don't get easier - you just get quicker ... :)

After getting a lift to/from the pub last night I thought I'd better put some effort in this evening ..... A whole 30 mins on the turbo ! God I hate it ..... But I know it has to be done :(

Another 20 miles today .... In the cold to work and back. May have to ride tomorrow too as its gonna be clear down here.

It was a bit dicey on the way home - went the back road and nearly lost the front wheel on some ice. I'll stick to the Jain routes for now ....

Man Flu is putting the kibosh on things for me at the moments

I'm a bit crook too. I spent Monday and Tuesday on site for the trial assembly of a prototype structure. As there are only three of us in the company I ended up working as a steel erector. Great fun but I'm not used to that sort of thing and it left me with back and groin pains. Going to try a gentle 20 minutes on the bike this afternoon.

Lots of it about David, the number of coughers and splutterers on the train and in work last week was unreal, no wonder I came down with it in the end.

Still feeling sorry for myself but on the mend. Took my blood pressure this morning as a precaution considering the last time I had man flu it turned for the worse.. it'd appear the health regime is doing the business.. blood pressure down from 125/82 with a low heart rate of 52 to today's reading of 109/68 and heart rate of 64. :encouragement:

cannot wait to get back on the bike but that'll not be until next weekend to ensure this bug has cleared the system first
