Straining rides

Bit too much snow here for getting out on the bike, so may well get the turbo out...
Thought that might be the case ...

I bought myself one of those flashy computerised turbos last year... it links to my ipad (which I push out to the TV), showing a video of various famous rides, and then varies the gearing on the turbo to reflect the gradient, plus runs the video at the appropriate speed to match my riding.... makes the turbo session much more interesting when you are riding the Tourmalet, or the Amstel Gold route!
Hmm ... I'm hankering after one of them - but no way could I justify one ... I've got a basic one - I just shuv the video on the iPad and wear headphones atm ..
Actually, I've leant mine to my F-i-Law and I'm borrowing an even more basic one .. not that it makes much difference - it's too easy to get off!

Planning a 20-25 mile ride tomorrow, depending on the weather of course. I don't really mind the cold, but I am wary of idiot drivers, and getting wiped out if its too slippery. Have had a dose of Gary's man flu this week, not sure if it is a computer virus, or something I picked up on the plane home last weekend, so done nothing since Sunday. Will be at home most evenings next week, so will get a static bike ride in as well.

Well that's an hour of my life I won't get back!

I rode the Milan San Remo route... which is nice and flat for 5km, and then just goes uphill..... :nonchalance:

it appears to have dragged my average speed down a 'little' bit!

He goes uphill faster than I go on the flat.... I took a peek at some of the stats that Sky published once from a Garmin, and he was averaging 22.5mph on a 6% climb!!! (IIRC, he also averaged something daft like 475 watts for the whole climb!)

Too cold and wet to ride this morning, so a 10k run. Didn't go so well, now have a muscle problem, top of my left thigh. Great! Might try the static bike tomorrow to get something on my legs, depending how painful the muscle is :disgust: this old age malarkey, not good...........

Just moved house this week so plenty of exercise carrying boxes around and loads of step ups while decorating.

Really good news is that my sciatica has calmed down and I hope to start riding this coming week. Can't believe that January has already departed, need to get some miles in the saddle under my belt fairly quickly.

I can SOOOOOO relate to that! :D

Last year I did an Ironman, and therefore a LOT of training.... It was quite eye opening how my body didn't recover from the sessions as quickly (if at all!), and how niggling injuries kept popping up compared to doing a lot of exercise as a youngster...

Tough break Paul, hope you feel better soon. P.s. not looking good for a 2pm meet on Tues, I've had a meeting invite come through that clashes :(

Take it as it's cancelled mate

First ride since 11th Jan - 13 miles in horrid conditions especially on the 4 mile home stretch where I lost alot of speed against the wind.. averaged 13.5mph which I am pleased with considering I sill have a bit of a cold lingering from the earlier man flu episode. Had to work really hard with a max heart rate of 167 and an average of 149 bmp and can feel it now that I am home, I'm a rosy red colour in the mush area :)

The other promising news is I've dipped below the 13st mark for the first time in as long as I can remember, currently sitting at 12st 13.5lb which means I've lost 8.5lb in January.. target weight for the ride is 12st 4lb which'll bring me in to a normal weight range :encouragement:

Did 17 again this morning. Had planned to do 25 ish, bit it was soooooooo cold. Went well wrapped up, and I don't normally do cold, but it took a goodly while to thaw out. Looking forward to some milder climes.

First time out on the bikes since moving house and managed just over nine miles. Kerry's bike didn't travel well in the move so we had to stop a few times to carry out running repairs. Other than cutting the ride short by about five miles because of the bike issues, we both enjoyed it and returned without injury.

On a different note, a non-boaty friend from work is interested in joining us on the ride. I have forwarded him a link to the forum but warned him that there is every possibility that he will end up buying a boat before the year is out... :)

50 miles on Sunday - but cleat slipped and ended up with a pain in the knee again ...
I adjusted it once home and rested yesterday - back on the bike this morning and no sign of any pain :) Mind u - it only shows up after about 30 miles of hard riding so it remains to be seen ...
