Re: 6 bottle plastic crates

[ QUOTE ]
We have one gathering dust in the depths of the scullery. Often been tempted to bin it, but maybe now I won't. Probably came from local hypermarket, so should be easy to find in France.
Would you like to explain how your wife dropped the glass from 6 ft above the cockpit?

[/ QUOTE ]

Will keep eye out whilst on hols - I am sure this is the kind of thing that should be in every fench hypermarche, couldnt find any in local lidl/aldi.
She was standing on coaming, making some point, glass left hand and fell to cockpit floor , about 6 feet. We were moored up in Croabh, and erm drink had already been taken /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Agreed,
we have eaten off "proper" plates and had tea, wine and beer etc from "proper" cups and glasses for the last 11yrs living aboard crossing and on both sides of the Atlantic, I detest plastic tableware, It,s easy to pig it, takes some care to preserve some style. OK, I am an impoverished, inverted SNOB, with an ordinary Red Flag and proud of it! Bill.

Sorry to bring this up, but does anyone else have an image of pirates and rum after reading this forum? Haha! But on a more serious note, what about building in a wine chiller or installing a friedge for prper storage of wine on your vessel mate? Better for the eventuality of long term storage on board.

Our 6 bottle plastic wine crate doubles up as a pontoon step,( whenempty), it is french but we found it on the beach in Canna, you know the one with all the smooth perfect egg shaped red stones.

I reckon I could get a few hundred bottles in there, but getting to the bottom ones would be awkward. Maybe they would have to be consumed in the order stored.

Like most Island Packets you have a proper deep bilge and fabulous amounts of storage. I have no trouble storing wine on our SP Cruiser. Ready to hand stuff not needing chilling in the bottom of the hanging wardrobes, the majority under the walk round bed.

I use wine boxes as they last a bit longer ....
The m&s 2 bottle wine pouches are quite good. The advantage of both items is that they are easier to carry back from the shop due to lack of bottle weight. I did try to get the crew to do the carrying but that went wrong!
