To any of those interested or following previous posts, I came out of intensive care 4 days ago (went into hospital on the 4th Jan) & although there are still complications the overall outlook appears to be improved, did get very touch & go for a bit but that is nothing I wasn't expecting !
Am now able to think half straight again (half is as good as it ever got) hence this post.
Now thinking about the boat, & am of the thought that this will be the third year she has been serviced ready but not used due to my health issues, business commitments etc.etc., so might be a good time to sell & take a break, can then upgrade if & when ready.
Is now a good time to sell a very high spec med boat in sterling ?
My thoughts are put her up for sale & see what happens, not the end of the world either way so its either a sale or year 4 of little to no use, what do we think ?

Glad to see you back. If you think there is no chance of use, might as well sell. If, on the other hand, you think you might get even a small amount if time on the boat this year I would say keep it. Quality time with family doing something you enjoy is priceless. Just one great trip on the boat this year is better than a few quid in the bank, especially if that money would make no great difference to your quality of life.

Well done for surviving the OP an I wish you a speedy recovery. I'd say that now is an excellent time to sell a Med Spec sterling priced boat. Boats like to be used so definitely better to sell than have it lying there unused for another season.

Well done for getting through the trauma of that op, speaking as someone who's had 2 gut resections in the last few years, believe me I know how much pain you've been in post op, let alone the weight loss, worry, fear and so on - I'm not sure if this is your first time under the knife but you will start to feel so much stronger as the time passes.
We were in a similar situation in January - drugs failing to work, surgery the only option, I had a 6 hours surgery in March and pretty much wrote off the chances of sailing our boat to Portugal as we had planned. By May it was apparent that I just about was strong enough to try the trip and as yet, we haven't looked back!
I guess what I'm saying is take a little more time to decide about the boat, you're ambivalent by the sound of things so perhaps you are wise to test the water.
We've just agreed a part ex on our boat and have 6 months to sell it before the fact of completion - we are being told that boats are selling very well at the moment so let's see!
Whatever you decide to do, good luck and I really wish you the best recovery possible.
Regards

Apparently brokers are struggling to find well specc'd, good condition boats at present. There is a demand out there. Just sold our P42 Flybridge........she was on the market for a little over 2 weeks..........and got very nearly the asking price.

Pleased to hear that you're well enough to post on the forum at least! On the basis that the boat is only going to be worth less next year and you will also be saving on mooring and other charges, I would put it on the market now. Yes I have heard from brokers that there is a dearth of good quality used boats out there (partly because so few new ones were sold post 2008) and of course the current low value of Sterling will certainly give you an edge on pricing over Euro denominated boats. Obviously because you are in a position in which you dont have to sell, it puts you in a stronger position to resist low ball offers too

Whatever you decide to do with the boat, it is great to hear that you are on the mend, and looking forward with optimism. Who knows what the future has in store for any of us, so enjoy what you can, when you can.:D

indeed wish you a speedy recovery from what was a heck of an ordeal.

Good plan to get your boat on the market, great time to sell right now iMO... just ready for new season for someone. When you are fit enough to get boating again then go shopping, in the meantime there nothing like a bit of boat homework/window shopping.

Great to see you posting Rubberduck, wishing you a continued speedy recovery. As others have said, the season is a head and people are thinking of what's to come, great time to sell.

Sounds like things got a bit scary there. Get well soon - take it easy for a while.
if you are not getting much use out of the boat probably best to get it gone.

if you are not desperate for the money, keep it, are you going to get well or ???

Definitely! Unless you can't afford to keep it. A couple of days on your boat will do far more to help your recovery than anything the NHS could ever do for you!

So pleased you survived the surgery and that you are still with us.

If you intend staying with us for any length of time and the costs are not to burdensome I would say keep the boat. As others have said time on board your own boat will work wonders for you and your family will love watching you doing what you enjoy.

Get well and get on the boat soon :encouragement: :)

Going to test the water, will get Sam (eldest) to talk to peeps & get the ball rolling when volspec have completed bi annual drive service on both drives,& a carpet repair is done, which will put her as new but much improved, might cadge a ride in the med or somewhere if things carry on improving as they are, thanks for good wishes, 7 hours on the table for this one but aiming for one more of about two inc reversal then that's it, I HOPE. Quite interested in a couple of new boats & a year out may give the opportunity of slightly used examples coming up, we shall see.

I was all for selling until we listed all the nice little extras she has, joystick control, plumbed internet, sat tv, modified air con for better heat, remote controls for everything inc boat itself etc.etc.etc.
when we had finished the whole list, I told Sam I want to buy it, isn't another boat out there like it !!!!! We shall see.

Have you had a reversal yet, if so how does procedure compare with initial 6 hour op ?
I was under for seven plus hours & will have the reversal which I'm told is one hour max, just need to get strong enough to avoid the complications I have had first time round, mainly caused by lack of weight / strength etc.
