Boat Hekseri is owned by my father. She was commissioned by him in 1984 and is unique. In 1991 he sailed from Southampton to Singapore. He has returned to the UK but the boat remains in Singapore. Reluctantly he has tried to sell her and she is currently on www.simpsonmarine.com as well as appearing in YM to be published in April.

There is little interest in S'pore and she may be more attractive toa buyer in the UK, Hong Kong or Australia. However, she needs approx. £15,000.00 work to make her seaworthy. We just do not have this kind of money.

She is a most beautiful boat, solid and safe. She comes with a good pedigree. She is absolutely unique and built to sail the oceans.

WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?

Would anyone be interested in sponsorship?
Could we sell shares in her to raise the funds to get her seaworthy again?
How and where is the best place to market her?

Is there anyone out there able to advise and take on this interesting challenge. Can you take Hekseri's plight to your heart and help me?

I think you may find this difficult.

At present we in England are trying to muster support to restore a very famous yacht, Gypsy Moth IV, and even that is proving difficult.

Your yacht is 20 years old and frankly, if it has received little regular maintenance since 1991 that could well be getting close to its life-span.

I've taken a look at the site and if it is the sailing yacht that best fits your description then it is seriously over-valued in this condition. It seems unrealistic to own a yacht with that sort of price tag yet lack £15,000 to do it up. Why not try a big price cut?

Apologies for not being more helpful.

Thank you for your advice. Probably what I did not want to hear but honest and to the point. I shall see if I can reduce her price in the YM advert if there is still time and take it from there.

Good luck with Gypsy Moth, a more worthy cause than mine perhaps but these boats do get the emotions going!

Thanks again, Sophie

Sphie,
Like Andrew, I am not sure which is your Fathers yacht.. perhaps you could tell us. However from an OZ point of view, there are tons of yachts on the market here.. one of the best ways to sell here, is via a "trader - a -yacht "magazine which you can reach at ...http://boatpoint.ninemsn.com.au

Have a look , compare prices etc , but bear in mind any OZ or Kiwi who purchased her , has to pay import duty, so Andrews point is well made about price...

The best location in Oz in my opinion to sell is Far orth Queensland and Sydney, but it would depend on how well she " Polishes up" .. sounds like a lot of work has to be done , plus you have to get her here... We are getting into thye Saailing season UP north so a decision would have to be made quickly.. I would say forget HKG , but worth a listing perhaps in Phuket....

Let me know what else we can do for you, sponsorship etc is out of the question.. sorry

Thanks Brian,

The boat is called 'Hekseri' and she is on www.simpsonmarine.com lying in S'pore.

Your advice about selling is v.useful and yes I do think we should drop the price to reflect the work to be done on her. Phuket sounds an interesting possibility. Do you know of any web sites/mags for there?

I appreciate that sponsorship may be out of the question but have you come accross the idea of shares? May there be a few Australians or Kiwis interested in owning a part of her or all of her collectively?

Hi David,

Hekseri is the 42ft on deck (50ft with bow sprit) ketch with picture looking nestled in a tropical background. She is being marketed for $80.00 on that site I think which we know is too much now.

Please come back to me if you are interested or have any advice.

It never works.. ie shares in a yacht... I have seen very firm friendships breakup because of problems with part ownerships in yachts.

Cannot help you with a site in Phuket, search and you will find one.

Just for your own info.. I can buy a solid seaworthy ketch 40', with tons of miles under her ,and ready to go again now for about AU$ 70.. in OZ...now if I had to fly to Singapore, spend money on accommodation and say AU$15/20 on the yacht , plus duty to get her into OZ , then I am way out of pocket, looking at the market here ,and that site I gave you...

Sorry , but I dont have the answer, to your problem.

I know I have already replied but I have since visited the Simpsons web site and things seem to have changed. She is not there for some reason. All I can say is that she will be in the edition of YM coming out on April 9th.

Help, I do not have one to send electronically. I shall try to get one and send it on to you but do you have an e-mail I can use? Worst case scenario I could send a hard copy by post/fax of the ad from YM to you. Shows how desparate I am, not to mention my inadequacies on th PC front.

There have been a number of enquiries regarding exactly where this boat can be viewed.

I now have some detailed information about the boat as well as some pictures of her. I would be very happy to e-mail these to anyone who is interested. Please go to user options and send me a private message with your e-mail address.

Hi Sophie,

My name is David Smith, I live in Singapore. I have seen Hekseri, and in fact made an offer on it...unfortunately I think the agent did not pass on the offer to you...he said it was too low and that the owner might be annoyed at receiving it!

Anyway, I am a frequent visitor to the marina because I live nearby, and I think it is a shame to see Hekseri in such a state...in fact she is un-locked (so anybody can enter), and her ropes are not in good shape.

Rust is making inroads along the water line, and I fear that she is near the end of her days. Sorry to be discouraging, but the chances of selling her at even a fraction of the asking price are small...there is no market for boats in Singapore, and even in Langkawi and Phuket there are yachts in better condition than Hekseri for sale at a quarter of the price.

Anyway, if there is anything I can do to help, please let me know. My contact number is +65 92385856. I am visting UK from 21 August for a couple of weeks.

Dave
