My starter motor has a solenoid switch mounted on the starter which is wired accordingly and functions correcly. But then i have two nut/bolt terminal on the back of the actual starter.

What are these for ? They seem to be always +ve when the ignition switch is out of the OFF position.

Tyrone.

Look at the starter solenoid as an automatic switch which can carry the +/- 200 amps needed by the starter motor. Your turning on the starter key or button is equivalent to turning on a switch by hand and a switch is normally always on the + side with a negative ground system
