I'm after a hundred No 6 x 3/4" stainless woodscrews to fix the rubbing strip onto a dinghy. My usual stainless supplier only does machine screws - can anyone recommend one for woodscrews?

The only stainless screws I can find there are chipboard, and come in a pack of several hundred ... sorry, should have said that I'd checked them.

Anglia Stainless Ltd - not what they used to be.
I have been using and recommending Anglia Stainless Ltd, Bishop's Stortford, for about 10 years but a few days ago I phoned up to place an order for small size woodscrews with Pozi heads, and the individual I spoke to was surly and unhelpful, (lots of sighing and muttering about not knowing if they had any in stock etc). I asked him to check and this produced more sighing followed by a long wait before he returned to say they didn't. I next asked him to get some for me and he said he would call me back (which he didn't).
When I phoned up to see what was happening I learnt they were going to send self-tappers, which I had not asked for, and didn't want. When I pointed this out the bloke I spoke to started moaning about the "effing invoice having been done" etc.
A far cry from the usual friendly and helpful service I have had from Anglia in the past.

Seascrew (above) do a better range range but Screwfix do sell stainless steel woodscrews under the name 'Turbo Ultra' they are cheap and easy driven and hold well, so I tend to use them for nearly everything (except outside on the boat) in preference to zinc plated, however they are fully threaded, A2 not 316 and perhaps not as sturdy as the proper half threaded woodscrews you get for silly money in the chandlers.

I do have enough silicon bronze woodscrew for the job. Unfortunately they are 4" long by 3/8" shank, which would be slight overkill...

For plain countersunk pozidrive Screwfix is difficult to beat, especially if you have a branch nearby. If you are after any of the other head styles then other than ebay the best bet is Seascrew, or http://inox.ie/, who are both reasonably priced and deliver with reasobale speed.

Strange personal preference but I really prefer slotted heads on a boat - posidrive somehow just don't look right. OF

What a great shame. I haven't ordered from them for a couple of years now but they always used to be so helpful, even for orders for 6 of this, 10 of that and half a dozen washers. Another case of customer service going down the drain by the sound of it.

Yes - I know what you mean - Pozi don't look right. I used a lot of Pozi head screws to secure several large removabla panels and I don't like the look of them but it was a big time saver being able to use a power screwdriver.
Also slotted screws should have their slots in line where possible.
