ST60 Graphic & NMEA out

I have one of these things ... the idea was to get the heading data out of an ST4000 autopilot compass onto "seatalk" and then Tx via NMEA from the ST60 Graphics display (new & uprated Multi display) into my JRC 1500 radar set. ST60 Manual says it should but it doesn't ...

put a digital multimeter across the NMEA out and there's nothing whereas the Garmin GPS which goes to the ST60 Graphic's NMEA "IN" is a healthy 2 second pulse (which the ST60 reads quite happily & correctly)

The Garmin GPS NMEA is also fed into the JRC navigation NMEA port quite happily .. (the JRC requires compass data eg HDG on the "compass" NMEA and Navigation data eg SOG, COG on the "Navigation" NMEA otherwise it screws up)

Has anybody else had bother with the ST60 Graphic's NMEA out?

thanks for any help ...

Have you turned on the NMEA OUT setting in the Calibration mode on the ST60?

Sadly yes, I needed a NEMA/Seatalk interface from Raymarine £120 ish! but it did work a treat
