Match’s asking price is deliberately much lower than the others for sale (AFAIK there are only 3 other Sq78 HT for sale currently). I hope this will create “buyer hunger” and make the process less time-consuming for me.

The seller I always wanted and never found ! Too bad you are not selling a 58 !

And congrats on the San Lorenzo, fantastic boat !

Welcome back ,I will keep out of this , but thought congratulations were in order anyhow , and hopefully a future SL new build thread from now if that helps sway your decision.

Just one Q , did you look at check out an Amer round about 100 , or 110 ? Not sure if it’s the LLL qualifies , for owner helming ?
Just your thoughts.Might not have been on the radar even ? Just interested what was on or off the radar .

SL 96 A or any other SL around that size are the pick of the crops btw imho .I have seen a lot around recently .Folks don’t read , miss read any negativity into this Q ^ , it’s a few leaps ahead .Hence my qualification of SL inc the A .

I like your pricing structure btw ,FWIW , i did the same , just slightly under cut the nearest and hoped the bigger spec would lead to a fast sale .A bit too fast all gone off it’s berth in side 3 weeks .The broker + guardian had to strip the personal effects and put them into to a rent a box storage unit.

Good luck at both ends .
I won’t post again on here .

Porto .

What you say about this forum's downhill slide is sadly true imho, but I have a glimmer of hope, due to its dullness being openly aired on here recently. This place has many great contributors, and the damage is done by only a tiresome small minority playing broken-record lectures relentlessly, jammed on "transmit". Wouldn't it be great if that just stopped? Here's hoping! :)

Amen to that!! Sadly it's just a couple of regular posters (IMO) but it really does spoil the forum, one in particular regularly ineptly Plumb-ing the depths of champagne socialism and the other... Well you know about the other.

Welcome back, hope you stick around. :)

Thanks for those good wishes Mapism. I'm looking forward immensely to the Sanlorenzo project next year - just need to find time to get to Italy often enough. I hear the food is quite good (?) :)

Hear hear. There was an oasis in the wilderness in the shape of a thread about a bloke who spent 12 years building a steel boat from scratch in his back yard. YBW as it used to be. Then just recently someone has sat on the TX button again.

Perhaps this thread is now descending into the thread that everyone on it says they don’t want...it’s now attacking the posters personally. Everyone is entitled to their opinions (those that can get past the new rules)...no post is compulsive reading...if you don’t like someone’s writing style, it doesn’t make them a bad person or even somebody that you wouldn’t like if you met them. Let’s welcome back old friends, beg them to chronicle their latest adventures, without attacking others...there’s enough censorship here without contributing to it

you're not wrong mr Bouba (in the general sense),
however I think it's a matter of ppl finding an opportunity to vent their frustration over certain events/posters.
I gladly read everyone's opinion in here (I've only got one person in block who I think now stopped posting- no, not Porto btw!) but I'd like to hear certain arguments once maybe twice, I'm a grown up not a highschool kid that needs to hear the same thing every day - despite what my wife (who is in education) believes that repetition is king.
Would be lovely to be in the 2010s era of forum climate when I first joined.

I think it is doable, we all have to gain from that (an SL built thread by JFM would be brilliant!) and mods will have much less work to do
let's see how it pans out

cheers

Back in the day, one of my biz partners said I’d made a hugely positive impression in our early days by announcing that I wasn’t ever going to say anything more than once, no matter how many contra arguments might be advanced.

Mind you, by the time I was reminded of it I’d long since stopped practising what I preached. :ROFLMAO:

Evening all. I haven’t posted on here in ages but lurk very occasionally. I’m chiming in to clear up confusion on this topic.

The Squadron 78 on Boats.co.uk and TheYachtMarket today is my boat. I didn’t like the ads so they were taken down - one picture was of another boat, and the description was inaccurate. Should be back up tomorrow, corrected. So, yes I’m selling Match, (aka on here “Match 2”). It has been and still is a great boat, but I just feel like a change.

Match’s asking price is deliberately much lower than the others for sale (AFAIK there are only 3 other Sq78 HT for sale currently). I hope this will create “buyer hunger” and make the process less time-consuming for me. Please don’t be too harsh on the pictures in the ad – they are just my holiday snaps because I don’t have time for pro photography.

By the way I didn’t leave/wasn’t banned from this forum because of any argument with the mods, as Portofino inaccurately stated the other day. I had plenty of mod arguments throughout my 20 years on here, and we always resolved them amicably ?. I left because I thought the place was filling up with dull (imho) posts. It’s no fun (imho) seeing new boat strawberries pee’d upon, reports that your boat is dirty when there’s a hosepipe ban, relentless repetitive lectures on old Itamas/EGT, social justice rants, etc. Of course folks can write whatever they want, and folks can check out too.

Hurricane, (hi and hope all well aboard JennyW) it’s the same Laser on both boats – I kept it when I sold the first Sq78 ?

I'm not giving up boats (!) - I’ve ordered a SL96A – detailed design underway now; build starts Feb 2023; delivery Feb 2024. Looked carefully at all the competitors, but just liked it the best. Fairly chunky spec, chunkier than any SL96A they have built before.

Anyway, I hope it was helpful to clear up any confusion on Squadron 78 adverts. Best wishes everyone and thank you for the kind words in some recent threads.
Nice to hear your input if only to clear up the hype, best wishes with your new project .

It is great to see your reply.
I can only iterate other people when they say that we have missed you.
Please come back.
And I say that as someone who has stood the test of time.
Stuff that you have contributed over the years has helped everyone.

Yep all aboard JW is well
This photo was taken a couple of days ago.
Note the Novurania on the bathing platform - another thing where your help was invaluable.
Yep, I know it is too big - but we manage and it is times like those anchorages where a big rib "comes into its own".

A new build thread would be fantastic.

it seems that a welcome back is in order JFM. I have to say your taste in boats is impeccable. The Sq78 was Fairlines most succesful ever product I believe and that I was told to me from the top there at the time. There was a huge push to make the ill launched ‘80 to replace it chasing similar financial success which i don't doubt you were aware of at the time but it just couldn’t (or wouldn’t), be funded by the company at the time and more importantly, couldn’t be transported out of Oundle as the Sq78 was the absolute limit of what they could move by road and the 80 had to be beamier still regardless.

I look forward to seeing the revised ad and i’d appreciate it if your or someone on here could add a link to your original build thread as this forum is so vast, finding stuff i don’t find so easy and it sounds like a great read to save me from watching series 2094 of Below Deck. Mucho gracias.

A new build thread of the SL would make a great story to follow too, especially as it’s such a special thing (Wowzers), and even if only for those of us who just love boats, regardless of what they are. And I promise i won’t criticise your choice of cabin three pelmet if indeed it doesn’t match that which would be my own choice.

Oh, and i’m relatively new here. Know little about boats except how to manufacture them from CAD data but look forward to finding out very soon as the plunge has now been taken and now have some oars on order. Do Amazon deliver to Majorca ?

Just out of Hurricanes shot in s my relatively new to me Fairline Phantom 48, our pride and joy. We have just returned today from a fully fantastic trip to Ibiza with Hurricane and a few others.

I was only saying during our 7 day trip that the posts byJFM were full of information and aspiration.
Congratulations on your the purchase of your SL. Hopefully politics will disappear and we will all benefit from a posting of your progress.
Either way sincere congratulations.

Hi John,
Welcome back !
It had become a dark place, without you and a few others missing here
looking much brighter no :)

I admire your choice for the new Sanlorenzo, you know I'm a big fan !!
finally a real "Character boat " :) :) ;)
with you steering this project, it would be a dream to follow this build process, not only for me, but I'm sure for many on here,

I'm wishing you all the best with the project,
and hope to see you soon again!
