Spotty turns tail

First rate decision, shame about the anchor though.

Forecast not good for the rest of the week down here, you may want to consider returning home and trying next week.

Got to Lowerstoft, poked our nose out, only F8 gusting F9 lost the anchor decided to turn back, wil try again when Ive got clean pants.......

Ah, on delivery trips anchor needs to be tied down. I carry a special securing line for such things. Even on the big bugger I came down with from Scotland we tied the anchor off.

In rough seas things let go!

I just looked at windfinder for your area. it doesn't calm down until next week. Might be best to tie her up safe and go home.
You must be very disappointed but at least you know what the boat does when it all kicks off. I assume your all OK apart from the trouser department?

Out of curiousity - how did you know you'd lost your anchor?
Did you hear/see it fly though the air?

I guess you'd never have know on your old F43 if you'd lost your anchor till you went to use it, so it's a bonus that you knew that it had fallen off before you needed it.

Only noticed it was was gone when we got back, quite pleased tho, we thought it was gearbox noise, also obscure steering at one point, must of been when it gripped the bottom !
Going home tomorrow, by car, next week looks better........

blooming heck. Got to admit, like probably most of us on here I was waiting for you reporting in and seeing just how far you got.... it couldn't have been a worse week... how did she perform...not many boats you actually go out in a F8..

She handled brilliantly, no cashing or banging .
Helmed from below, wipers on full, one of our crew wasn't very happy, do turned back, it was then when we lost the Anchor. Im sure we would have been ok , just not worth the risk. I have some issues to sort out, but generally very happy with her.
Looks to be a weather window early next week, but could all change very quickly.

still slightly confused after reading the thread. First of all, good decision to turn back and do the delivery another day with decent (better?) weather. Reminds me my delivery last month with 5-6 hours of F6+ on unknown seas until we got a shelter. Next two days it was brilliant calm seas and sunny (OK, highly unlikely in your case)

Re the anchor you mean you lost the anchor and all chain attached to it, right? As in clutch was loose on the windlass and it managed to drop off? Because I always keep the windlass clutch tight to avoid it slipping. Is that the case?

Nice boat btw ;) hope you enjoy her!

for anchor to bite, it must have been on the chain and still attached to the boat..

Glad your safe
Weather looking like getting better ish by weekend.
Dave has experience of anchors self launching
Good practice to secure anchor with a line to strong point to avoid a sudden self launch
Am free after Sunday so if you need a hand holler
Merry Christmas
Tim

You know what it is one of the things I'm usually very mindful of, this one has a stainless clamp arrangement that twists, thought it was secure, my new anchor is now very well lashed down.
Thanks for your kind offer again, we are going to try and leave Lowerstoft at first light, weather looks promising at the moment.. Would have loved to have you aboard
