Please see below I believe the chain jumped over the gypsie, 30kgs is a heavy old lot to be loose, could have been catastrophic if it came though the windscreen.

The anchor chain was lashed at the point it connected to the boat, did its job in breaking, just as well we would have still been out there ! Putting the black ball up would have been a bit of a pig
...a black ball would have been the last of your worries...
30kg that's a weight!

I have replacer her with the same, 30kg Bruce, 30mtr 3/8 chain spliced to 30 mtrs of warp.
I had it delivered to the boat by 1800hrs. Many thanks to Mike @Maritime Support limited superb service & very fair price, highly reccomnded.

I always have my anchor hard on the winch and a pin through it, also it's tied to the rail. Still there have been times, it has got loose in bad weather. Luckily it has just flailed around, without doing any damage. Not that we could have done much about it.
Conclusion, if there is any possible way an anchor can get loose, it will do.

I for one, will do everything possible to avoid a repeat.
Whist a new anchor and chain wasn't cheap,it could have been so much worse.
