Last year in April there was a massive cliff fall near Durdle Door, which took away part of the coastal path. This resulted in a very large pile of rock on the beach, which I photographed in June 2013 on our way to Portland.

Yesterday I was passing again and photographed the same cliff fall; comparison of the two shots clearly shows the effect of a winter of severe onshore gales and massive seas. Amazing to see how much rock has disappeared in 12 months!

Which is "before" and which is" after"?

Clearly not as clear a difference as I had thought!

The left hand shot is taken in June 2013. There is a large slump of rock and material, rather like a scree slope, resting against the cliff face and extending onto the beach. It has some vegetation on it and the bottom has started to be washed away. In the second, right hand photo, taken on Friday, this has entirely disappeared. All that is left is clean rock face all the way down to the beach.

The link below is to an aerial photo taken just after the rock fall, showing the slump of rock

Hope this makes it clearer.
