Southampton Boat Show photos

To be fair to them it has always been the same with Fairline. They pretty much want to know that if everything is ok you're going to depo up there and then. At the very least they want a specific date when you'll be changing.

I always remember a few years ago when I was a Fairline owner feeling very unwelcome indeed. Princess have always had a pretty open house arrangement to the point where I used to feel a bit guilty knowing I was never going to buy a new boat off them. Well until I bought a new boat off them :)

Henry :)

Henry, I know exactly what you mean. I spent yesterday looking at Maserati Quattroportes and then rang up Stratstone and almost certainly would have bought another Range Rover instead except that they'd just sold the one I was after. Nothing so fickle as a customer, I guess.

Yes but at least you've seen the Maserati. Who knows what the future holds? Sometimes the payback comes many years down the line and all that time you're quietly selling yourself on the idea of the Maserati.

Of course one day you could see sense and buy a Porsche ;)

Incidentally rather rude of me not to have commented on the superb photos which kicked of the thread. Thanks very much for posting them. Appetite well and truly moistened for the weekend.

Henry :)

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction Jack, can we expect a full boat test anytime soon?

Hi DTIM,

We are trying our best to get on board as soon as possible after the show finishes for a full boat test. However, in the next issue we have a one page show drive which will give you a bit of a taster.

There's also a quick walk through video here.

Cheers,

Jack

You say to the lady on the desk "Hello, can I have a look on a Fairline boat please?"

Isn't this the point of boat shows though... that you get to look at the boats? Or do you refuse entry to the thousands of people who are paying £15 so they can have a gander at the stuff they can never afford and only allow the 100 folk in who are actually going to buy a boat that year and then see how viable it is to put on the show?

On Henry's point, I had a good sniff around the Sealine F46 when they launch it at southampton a couple of years ago. The Sealine South Coast sales guys were happy for us to have a good poke around even though we clearly had no intention of buying. A year later the same sales director sold us our S28 which they'd taken as a part ex. If they'd been snooty about us going on the boats I'd have certainly remembered and it would have cost them a sale.

Same reason I'd never buy an Audi now. After the salesman asked to confirm I was serious before he'd arrange a test drive.

thanks for the video of the 50 Squadron, I see that Fairline is the first of the Brits to jump with an astern galley concept on the main saloon. I personally love this layout.
Its a pity that the view windows in the saloon features that center pillar as shown in the recent renderings and does not join togather as was in the intial designs or the 50 Targa GT.
May be Fairline found some structural issues here.

The flyhelm looks also a bit sub standard compared to what Fline usually offers, and even the flybridge sides look a bit low. But may be this is an impression of the video.

Nice boat tough. Have seen the 38 Targa GT, and looks good too.
And yes I know the 50 Targa GT was launched in London January, but photos real ones are hard to come by.

Who said they were refusing entry? I can't afford one and they were perfectly happy to let me on.

As to the Audi thing, personally I wouldn't let a dealership dictate what car I drove, if I wanted an Audi I'd have an Audi.

If the dealer pissed me off that much I'd just go elsewhere. You seem to have denied yourself an entire marque on the basis of one comment from one salesman. :D

I originally mentioned they have the barriers, which deterred me.

I also have an Audi on order! ;)

I had no problems at all getting on any of the boats on the marina. I found the staff very pleasant and I was not buying and couldnt afford to fill the things with fuel. This included Fairline, Princess, the 3 sunseekers ( wasnt allowed on the 130) and plenty more.
I just walk up and ask to have a look.

We went yesterday, had a look at a lot of boats but unfortunately some I wanted to see again were missing this year.

Also, how do you get on a Fairline boat? All those barriers!

The barriers are off-putting, but they are quite friendly really, just walk up and ask to be shown whichever model is interesting to you, they'll just point you in the right direction.

BTW star boat in my opinion is the new Sealine 42, very impressed with it, the one on the right in Pic 2.
