So I hopefully have an offer accepted on a 24' cruiser that could go on a trailer.

I have my name on the queue for Buckers Hard - which is about £1000 a year to keep - the boat - the benefit being it's out the water 99% of the time, the disadvantage is having to launch every time and then needing a trailer and towcar to put it in and out with.

I was thinking this is a good solution - but with a Towcar likely to cost about £450 - £750 a year to tax and £450 to insure (plus fuel, maintenence etc) I figured I might be better off spending a bit more and keeping the boat either proper drystack on on a Marina.

However the choices are very very expensive. I've ruled out Cardiff drystack now - it's cheap (£1600 a year) but not sure Cardiff / Bristol Channel is a good place to cruise and I love the south coast.

SO

Does anyone know anywhere I can either drystack or trailer launch where THEY put it in, or a marina or even something like a mid-river or swing mooring that would cost no more than about £2000 for a 24' boat for 12 months.

Anywhere from the river Dart to Hamble really will be fine - maybe as far as Chichester.

Thank you

Eastlands looks good - but they charge for the total length including the trailer - so most 24’ boats will end up nearer 30’ on the trailer - which would come in about £3000 a year - so cheaper to get the 4x4 and do the self launch - but I might call them anyhow…

On the Kingswear trots at Dartmouth, with option of going upriver onto a swinging mooring at Dittisham for winter which we did most years for the swinging mooring (I hate trots), the better shelter, and the FBI pub!
Do you live locally or is that an “open to all” mooring?

I have spoken to the Dart Yacht Clib and they too have spaces but it’s a long way from the clubhouse to the buoy they have available - would be fine on a lovely summers eve but not so nice on a chilly spring or Autumn evening of pelting with rain

It’s open to all. There may be a waiting list - more likely/longer for the bigger boats I believe. Some are a way from the dinghy docks (there are mulitiple location options) but there is a cheap water taxi service available - superb in season, workable through the winter. Apart from regatta week we never had problems parking in Darthaven marina public car park (Kingswear side). The parking costs do rack up a bit for a long trip but if doing that we would get train to Paignton and then cheap bus (or expensive steam train) from Paignton to Kingswear. Nice place to be. Does get a bit lively in a blow.

Yeh - it would be a stretch but the appeal of a walk on walk off pontoon is worth a premium
All I can say, after many years of trailer boating and all the hassle that goes with it, I much prefer a marina berth, it simply gives you more time boating, less hassle and not having to wear a wet suit to launch all the time lol. The one big appeal of trailer boating is the go anywhere, I did enjoy visiting many different coastal locations.

Yes South Island is the one the other side of Solent -berthing even at marina is quite a bit cheaper -Island harbour or moorings from Newport harbour master in medina river just down from Cowes might be available -otherwise a mooring up Fishbourne creek or in Bembridge harbour via joining local sailing club Brading haven yc might be option.
