Soon be time for peeps to but boats away...

Wouldn't dream of missing the winter afloat, some days too cold outside (9th Jan 2010) but cosy inside

I do remember when I had a speedboat my insurance (afloat) only lasted from April to end September and that seemed to be the season, maybe thats why some boats dissappear at the start of October

Each to his own ...

I have wintered afloat only once in 14 years and what put me off was not the cold, which you can do something about, but the long, dark and dreary evenings spent cooped up in a small space with nothing much to do ashore except sit in empty pubs.

Great photo LZ, is that his dads boat he's pointing to :)

Your November is equivilent to our May, in terms of seasonal months, and I'm usually 'heading for the hills' by the very end of our last days of Autumn.

I've got another seal seal gone on an outdrive as a result of crossing a fishing line again. Hoping to keep it going till October then do the winter service early. Out for a week, to service the drives, back in for the winter. We leave a dehumidifier and little oil radiator in the cabin, tube heater in the engine compartment on a thermostatic plug. Seemed ok last year. When we are on board we run the eberspatcher and have an eletric fan heater which will heat the cockpit if covers are on.

Here there's plenty to do - like sailing and , of course , the nights are nothing like so long not to mention being a touch warmer.

We only have the boat out once a year, for a week, to enable anti-fouling and servicing etc. Most Winter weekends will see us out trying to catch some nice Cod :) Had a couple of trips out last Winter when we had to break the ice and snow up in the cockpit to get the doors open.

Not me, I always stay in the water until mid Feb and then out for about 5weeks. Winter is one of the best times to go boating, just love the stress free access to any marinas. None of this, will we get a berth stuff.

I find coming out mid Feb for 5 weeks is just about the right time when the temp is starting to go up and makes polishing easier etc.
