Its been a long and entertaining / informative thread. I wish I was in Steve's position, going somewhat vertically up the learning curve.
Suggest we take a deep breath and wait for the next round of the more important questions like rig, downwind sails, reefing arrangements, storm sails, anchors and warps, dinghies, outboards, electronics, radar, etc, etc, etc, etc, ..........Now that will really generate some debate!
NB: it's normally the male of the species who physically defends the family, toils all day to find food and shelter and makes the primary move towards a large plastic boat with powered winches and a bit more headroom.
Steve,
nothing wrong with a GP14! I can sell you an Oppie for the kids , that'll make 2, buy a Laser for when its too cold for the missus , No 3, .. that'll make the Moody No 4, just right!
c'mon nigech, a farr50 isn't really posh now is it? OK it's posh compared with uk boatshows -cor look : carpet! But not posh compared with twin genrators, decnt stauary and some kentia palms in the saloon? Lee-hah - we're changing the CD!
Do you have a big stick that you like to stir things with? Do I get a prize if I get it to 100 posts.......Do I get like a free set of deck shoes if it gets to 200! Can't wait until I've actually been to the boatshow the s**t ill hit the fan then!!!
Bowthru8sters can be excellent. But note that there is a point in the experience/skill/power/damage curve at which it is much more cost-efficient to have no bow-thruster, and hand over folding cash in exchange for lightly smashing into other boats' pulpits? I couldn't justify spending more than £3k on a b'thruster, and would gleefully accept £200 for a hardly-noticeable bend in the forward ironmongery.
No prize for a mere 100. You need to get stuck in with something really outrageous and get past the 150 mark for notoriety. Nonetheless ,100 in a few hours is good going. And don't blame me for stirring it! Or pauline! Mind you, we always seem to be there in these rucks!
