Solar Trolling motor on a Dorry? Bad idea?

Assuming the 'dorry' is similar to the Dell Quay 'Dory', it may be a hull intended for planing.
It may have a lot of transom in the water at low speeds, making it something of a high-drag hull shape?
Then again maybe not, if the weight is well forwards and there's no hefty outboard on the transom.

If you want to make progress with 12V power, a slippery hull shape is probably key?

Yes Dell Quay style - without big outboard, hence ballast
All true but big stable dinghy is very handy, particularity with dogs. They are normally at front or I use tiller extension so trim is as good as it gets.
Slippery dinghies are normally unstable with it.

As long as we get our 4 knots we are happy.

Some 'dory-ish' boats are almost a catamaran if you trim them bow down.
Can be a good hull shape!

Getting 4 knots is one aim, getting plenty of range with a sensible size battery is another.
