Assuming the 'dorry' is similar to the Dell Quay 'Dory', it may be a hull intended for planing.
It may have a lot of transom in the water at low speeds, making it something of a high-drag hull shape?
Then again maybe not, if the weight is well forwards and there's no hefty outboard on the transom.
If you want to make progress with 12V power, a slippery hull shape is probably key?
