having sailed through the lat 5 winters, I've taken the boat out this year to catch up on maintenance. I have 55 jobs on the spreadsheet. So far only one has been done ( changing the anode) - its too cold and the days are too short.

How are you doing?

Lots of dismantling done but zero finishing. toilet plumbing and pump all apart and waiting for parts. hole dug under boat rudder dropped in, prop off, shaft removed Cutless bearing stubbornly staying put for now but soon to be removed and replaced. mast down and laid out on deck with loads to put right there. port cabin window removed and new replacement is sitting at home waiting to be fitted. cover is on and no leaks so things are going slowly maybe a bit more progress after the socialising season :)

Not very well.

Took the boat out early to get stuck in before the winter weather arrived.

Eventually made a start about a 10 days ago.
Probably wont do any more now until the spring!

Days now too short esp on top of a 2 hour journey.
Getting too cold and too damp for the fibre-glassing work I need to do.

cleaned out the burn chamber a few weeks ago.
re-assembed with new gasget & gauze last weekend.
Bolted it back in last night and sorted the electrics out today.
Tested - working....

Next job on the list is to make the gas locker bigger ... hmm....

Luckily I am now retired and also within walking distance of the boat. I'm getting on much better by doing 'one job a day'. Little and often is reducing the list quite successfully.

This is year two of the restoration of Paean.

We came out at the end of September and are getting on quite well, but I don’t know if we will make our deadline for re-launch by Christmas.

A big thank you to Sam Bingly and Bob and Dave of BDA (Swanwick) for assistance this year. Without these guys we would be SO far behind schedule.

1) New VHF wind-hawk / antenna fitted by www.jerrytherigger.co.uk

2) Deck sanded and painted (3 coats inc deck beads, etc) all areas except at stern

3) Rotten wood in transom (behind backstay assembly) area dug out, replaced and filled

4) Backstay plate removed, extra area welded on and repainted ready to be refitted

5) Hull scraped, sanded, filled, fared and anti-fouled.

6) Small topside repair, remove rotten wood and scarf in new.

7) Topsides sanded, filled and fared, 3 coats undercoat and first coat of topcoat applied. 1 or 2 more to go.

8) Centre and aft bilges stripped and repainted.

9) New locker boards made, painted and fitted

10) New battery boxes installed

11) Gunwales stripped and varnished (5 coats done) final to be done after topsides

12) New anode purchased from CC marine, ready to be fitted pre launch

13) Repair to mainsail and no1 jib, plus new Genoa and Storm jib underway by Ben @ Shore Sails

14) Engine service, new Fuel tank and piping, new shaft, new cutlass bearing etc underway by Mark Kimber @ Kimber Marine

In progress –new GPS but cannot get it talking to the VHF for DSC – need to relook at this later in the project.

15 jobs left to do pre launch!

Then complete refit of cockpit, companionway and cabin sole, hopefully before the end of March!

Finally took the bedding and clothing off the boat this weekend - that marks the official end of the sailing season for me.

Just too dark these days to make any serious attempt at doing anything - so I will probably wait until Feb before getting down to it in earnest

Not a jot.

Boat still in, and winter jobs are banned until December.

Same here, except swap December for January.

Have taken the cushions, food stocks, and other non-essentials off though, to save them from any dampness. It's day-sailing only at this point.

I have 3 critical jobs to do before going back in the water that I hope to complete tomorrow.

The yard has 2.

Who do you think will finish in time??

Hoping to be sailing by next weekend.

That’s a good question. My wife has just referred to the boat as my “man shed” where I disappear off to for hours at the weekend and get nothing done. It’ been very sociable down at the marina though, consuming a lot of coffee and I've seen several new toys for the Christmas list.
