Re: SIBS, Who\'s Going When?

With a piece of mindblowing incompetance, I've managed to book 10 days holiday from the 8 - 18th September. This leaves me with just one day to get there, ie the last day. Idiot!!

Yes, that would be good if you could make that date. Do you still have my Mobile no.??

But i bet it cost you more to get there, than it does me/forums/images/icons/smile.gif/forums/images/icons/wink.gif.

Yes, we'll have to decide whether to go in a DIESEL DISCO, or a iv-tec PETROL CRV.

Midy you, I've not yet fitted an isolation valve to the petrol supply on the CRV, and the battery's very close to the engine, and not in a plastic box, and I don't have any fire extinguishers or warning labels. Perhaps they won't let me in the car park!

It would be nice to help you choose your new diesel Sealine.

Re: SIBS, Who\'s Going When?

Ah just the guy, Jon.

When I came to try and recharge my M3 hand held the other day, I opened my draw full of chargers to find that there were about 14 to choose from. I managed to discount a few as they had 'Nokia' clearly printed on them, but I still found about half a dozen unmarked, non with Icom on, that would fit the socket, but of different voltages.

(why is it that so few providers of mains chargers identify the parent product on the charger, I always mean to tag them when I buy them, but never do!).

Can you help? (That'll teach you for pushing your products on the forum!!)

chargers

Why dont manufacturers standardize so that we only have to carry one charger brick to charge phone, laptop, digicam, Gameboy, VHF, etc?

Re: SIBS, Who\'s Going When?

Martyn

One could say its your own fault for not putting them in an order that lets you work out which is the right one!!

The one for the M3 will be rated at 12v and about 500ma.

The reason they are not tagged as Icom is that they are UK sorced for the UK market.
Depending on how old it is will also depend on who we had it made by!
Icom Inc do not make chargers and PSU just for us, sorry.
Only wish we could sell as many radio's as Nokia sell phones!!

Anyway hope that helps.

Re: SIBS, Who\'s Going When?

Thanks for your prompt and helpful reply Jon.

Now I know what I'll be doing tonight (tearing the house apart to find every charger I've accumulated over the last few decades!).

Yes, like I say, I've been foiled by it enough in the past to know it would be best to manually mark them immediately after purchase, but I think Tony B1 got my drift in that it's far from being an uncommon problem.

Surely it wouldn't be too much to expect the retail UK supplier to add a small sticker to the charger?

I'm sure that I do have about 14 of the little bleeders, and I guess most boaty/gadget freaks have amassed a similar large family of them. What didn't help in this case, was that I could find no note of the charger output spec in the Icom manual, or on the unit, although I did assume it may be 12v since it can run direct from a car charger.

Perhaps we'll discuss further at SIBS!

Re: SIBS, Who\'s Going When?

Funnily enough, I bought one of those Dymo electra-tag printers that will print labels onto plastic and metallic strips. A couple of months ago, I went round the house and labelled every single one of the bleedin things.

What a difference!

Re: SIBS, Who\'s Going When?

But it would not be difficult for Icom to include a few stickers in the box for us to stick on the power unit? Come to that, who packs the unit in the box with the VHF - why cant they do it for you?
Or even get the manufacturer to add a 'Made for Icom UK' label for you...added valeu marketing enhancement see,.........

And dont tell me it cant be done cos I persuaded one well know japanese manufacturer to do just that years ago ......../forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Re: SIBS, Who\'s Going When?

ok following all you comment I have spent the last 10 mins with my general manager and asked why?
Because I feel you have a very valid point.

We use 3 or 4 different suppliers for these and it would cost for them to do it.
It woiuld take a month of sunday's for us to do it here.
These are a universal product used by many companies not just us.

When we had them made in the UK we did have them logo-ed.

There are also, I understand some approval issuse regading this if we label them "ICOM" so it has to be worded correctly.

We do, however label the box they come in.

Yes it can be done but we have never gone that way, until now.
I have put it in motion lets see what happens.
We do listen.

Hope that helps

Re: SIBS, Who\'s Going When?

Roll on the days when you can charge via Bluetooth !

Just image some central control panel in your home, wirelessly monitoring and recharging all your mobile appliances automatically.

Actually talking 'tooths I think toothbrush manufacturers come the closest. very clever how you just drop them in the plastic hole and they light up and charge!

(Sorry Al, didn't mean to drift your thread so far /forums/images/icons/wink.gif)
