SIBS: the Good, the Bad and the Ugly

It's a pity that you didn't include any photos of boats. Minor celebrities doing silly things with flags only emphasises the pointlessness of much of the activity at these shows.

We went on Saturday and had a great day.
Weather was fantastic and the MDL lounge a real suntrap.
The show was definitely smaller than previous years, particularly the on water bit.
Highlight for me was a visit to the Fin Class boat (the one with the canting rig featured in YM a couple of months back). Had a good discussion with the two very enthusiastic guys on board and got invited out for a sail in the afternoon. Out for about an hour and a half and discovered that it actually seems to work ! Very strange sensation but a lot of fun - particularly seeing the look on the faces of other skippers we passed :-). I really hope they make a success out of it.

That was just my shooting over the weekend, there should be a whole host of 360º degree images of nearly all of the new yachts at the show:

Up there will be:

Arcona 340
Dufour 405
Elan 31
First 35
Grand Soleil 43
Hallberg Rassy 31
Najad 380 Aphrodite
Saturn 47
Southerly 49

I'll also be adding to the gallery when I can

I imagine we don't get many members admitting being well acquainted with the aesthetics of 'buttplugs'....

:D

Have been tempted by an ex gratis platinum ticket or two, otherwise would not bother. No point. Always cheaper on internet or just by bargaining direct.
Please advise where e-boarders stand is & how to avoid. Hope it is not near any rope merchant/chandler as my host & fellow liveaboard (s) may be up for a lynching.

Went on Saturday, great weather! Seemed very quiet though.

Not much in the way of small sailing boat to look at but generally it was worthwhile, we were mainly looking at re powering options for Freebird.

Honda man very helpful, advised us to select a different prop pitch specially suited to yachts, gave us a decent price, £ 1700 inc vat, I think, for a 10 with remote etc.

Beta, Yanmar and Nanni were helpful, all gave special "show prices" which seemed a lot less than normal list prices I have seen before, visited Bukh and had a nice chat with them which could have sorted the oil leak we have at the moment.

Food prices ok, parking easy in the Multi-Storey and cheaper than the Park n Ride BUT lots of upset people at the exit barriers due to the lack of signs telling you how/where to pay!

Lucky I didnt see the eBorders stand, they would have got a mouthful from me too!!

We called in, very pleasant lady doing a very difficult job explaining how it will work

Indeed. I imagine the job was sold to her on the basis of: "Nice week at the seaside, sitting in the sun surrounded by yots and explaining the new E-Borders proposals to a few interested parties. Bit of a rest, in fact". That'll learn her :), though she has my sympathies because she's no doubt a monkey rather than an organ grinder........
