Newbie calling!

Does shorepower need the batteries installed to allow everything onboard to work properly, or:
Can I remove my batteries and just rely on shorepower during my winterisation shore based period?

Many thanks in advance.

Why would you want to take the batteries of if you have shore power?? Well if you do your 12v system aint going to work is it.

The whole idea of taking the batteries of, is so youcan charge them up at home if no shore power on boat. Have I missed some thing.

Er this may be obvious but if you connect shore power your 240v stuff will work and if unless you have a 240 - 12 transformer then all your 12v stuff wont work if you take the batteries out. Best option is to have a Battery charger connected to the shore power that charges the batteries so you dont need to take 'em home.

Now for a lie down /forums/images/icons/cool.gif

Thought thats wot I said??

Anyway the plot thickens cos I got PM'ed for some strange reason and apparently he wants to spring clean the battery housing. Maybe if he wires the battery leads together, the charger will work the 12v system??

Well of course there would be a bit of a mix up between DC and AC and the current would try to fluxuate some what. It would play hell with the radar screen and Coronation St might be affected. But maybe the lights would come on. If only for a while!!

Just lift out the battery, spring clean the box, so to speak, and refit the battery, you need the battery as a buffer between the charger and the circuits. Well not completely true, but don't mess with things you don't understand, this is the safest way. IMHO. FWIW

Assuming you have a 3 stage battery charger then yes you could just run off the charger, up to the limit of its output. eg. if it's a 10amp charger you can't exceed 10amps load, in other words few lights or so and maybe the water pump.
Obviously no battery charger or other means of converting 240v to 12v then you'll have nowt, aside from 240Volts of course.
