Shaft bearing loose fit, shaft worn

This isn't strictly boaty but amounts to the same as say an outboard driveshaft with integral gear wheel worn where a seized bearing has been run in the past. Spares are no longer available. No deAd ones on ebay to plunder.

Can the missing metal -maybe 10thou be replaced and maxhined? Judging from the shallow drillings on the worn face someone's already tried epoxy.

Any solutions? I don't want to replace it - a 3 gang mower - at £500 or so for another used one.

The process that will recover the shaft is Hard Metal Chroming and then regrinding the shaft to original size, but it will still likely exceed at least £100. Google Hard metal chrome followed by the nearest large town to find a specialist.

Also another cheaper option might be a repair sleeve - google bearing sleeve SKF.

Or could it be turned down to a slightly smaller diameter and a different bearing used?

A somewhat bodgy version of the above; have the worn section knurled and turned down to size for the bearing. With this method it's advisable to use studlock or similar when fitting the bearing.
