just about to order a sprayhood, and sail cover from them. before I do so, has anybody had experience of their service and quality?

If you have had problems but dont want to say so, please send me a pm.

They changed a sacrificial strip on my jib about 3 years ago, it looked ok to me and is still doing its job. I collected from them on an agreed date and there were no problems.

It's a few years ago now, so I imagine others have more recent experience, but I'd be happy to go back to them for further work based on my experience.

I've had lots of small jobs done there and always been happy with the work. I know a number of boats with Severn Sails sprayhoods and sail covers, they all look good to me and everyone I know is happy with them. They are not cheap but you get what you pay for.

Severn Sails

I just dropped off a set of sails for them to clean and service over the winter. I have also asked for quotes on try / storm sails.

Josh seemed a very pleasant chap and offered some good advice.

Time will tell but as suggested by OP - you get what you pay for!

Never used him as all our sails are nearly new but never ever heard anything bad.Good reminder as i need to phone him. Nowt better to do, what a horrible day. For little jobs ask Angie or Nick Sawyer CBYC.OR if you can sew we have a full on industrial machine....van requided to borrow it.

I had a sacrificial strip replaced by A & N. It had straight sticking instead of zig-zag, which all the others have, and no hems on the edges. The first time I had some decent wind it started to come off. They had to redo the job. Luckily it is a sail that I no longer use very often as even the second attempt is second rate. Every sacrificial strip I have seen done by Josh looks really good and in a different league.

I know 2 people who have had spray hoods made by Josh of Severn Sails and both very happy with them. He has done repairs for me that were very well done and stood up to some hard use.

Sabre Sails

Haven't had any dealings with Josh and Severn sails but SABRE SAILS in Swansea Marina has made us an excellent sprayhood which we are really pleased with, as well as doing a first class service of our sails and repairs as necessary and will be making a new stackpack and new genoa for us this winter.
Simon, who runs the loft, is very experienced and always very helpful.

Earlier this year I damaged a genoa and had to head into Swansea. Simon from Sabre sails repaired the sail. He did a great job that evening and didn't rip me off. I would be happy to use him again.
