Jest went too my Honwave T40 on a trailer with the Mercury 20 hp 4 stroke carb model tiller steer on it. The petrol had been in the tank since October last year. I have not touched the engine since October last year, The impeller has been in for over 5 years and it once sat for 2 years doing nowt in the shed.

Squeezed the bulb three times, Pulled the pull cord 3 times and it started and ticked over and revved a dream. Pumped water fine just as it did last year.

All good. I will not be wasting my time, Money and the worlds resources on that this season.

But of course the sky will fall in, The oil will be full of sulphates, The impeller will be on the brink of destruction, The RNLI will have to be called out and I suspect the world would sink further into the abis.

If it aint broke don't Break it I say

Your engine, your choice. As you say it all works OK today.
But if you want some reliability out at sea..........

I would change the impeller. If that fails you have a dead, possibly damaged engine if you don't spot it soon enough. Very old oil and it just wears a bit faster.
