Need professional advice.
Just chucked my last dose of Dom'smagic fuel additive into the car to see what the result would be. After a run down the motorway bad news. Same as in the boat, all the bloody smoke’s gone and I can’t get the needle in the fuel gauge to make it’s usual rush across the dashboard. Having been deprived of smoking out all and sundry in the marina, now I can’t even puff out fumes at the open topped cars in the traffic jams.

What pleasures are there left in life ?

I need caring words from a boating Marge Proops .

Just out of interest I had a cast around the web for the magic stuff. The search came up with both the fuel stuff and a company selling sunbeds. Do you rub the additive into the skin before or after tanning ????

SuperFuelMax??

A guy at an exhibition I visited was selling a product called SuperFuelMax, that is supposed to reduce, smoke, consumption etc.etc. - I checked the website below and found that what they actually sell is a magnet to be fitted on the
fuel line (no tools needed...). Buy beer instead of additives with the help of a magnet!

Re: SuperFuelMax??

These actually do work but only in certain systems and where you can get them close enough to the injectors for it to make a difference. They however are not reliable enough and do not solve the bug problem.

Re: SuperFuelMax??

I've got DE-Bug filters fitted, which I believe work on a similar principal. As well as using the addative. May be belt and braces but who cares. The point is that the filters have always been there, the changes only came after adding the "stuff". the most spectacular results are in the car. Even when pushing hard up Reigate hill or cold starting the air is still clear. As an aside the car had it's mot yesterday and passed the emmission tests with flying colours before the addative was put in.

If this is an attempt to get some more free samples .....well then its working.

In all seriousness how long did it take before you noticed the difference?

Just in case you think we'de forgotten all about you at MBM, especially after several kind offers to lend us your boats as guineau pigs for a fuel treatment comparison..

Mark T, MBM's Tech Ed, has been down the lab with the boys in white coats growing some bugs, fungus, yeast and other unmentionables in your average gallon of red diesel.(And boy, do they thrive on it.) Once they've really got a hold, we'll be deploying all the products aimed at sorting them out, and in a very scientific (and expensive experiment, the first of it's kind, we're told) we're going to be seeing what kills what, and how. Not only that, but how much it costs per gallon, and so on.

Those kind souls that are going to sacrifice their boats to these products, for a seasons use, could you drop me a line with a pic of your vessel, and the type of engines it has?

Look out for the features - starting in the next issue with a preview of diesel bug - in MBM.

We like to get dirty.

Re: SuperFuelMax??

Tank was almost empty yesterday when filled. As advised the first dose was a double. Filled up with ESSO low sulphur then out onto motorway. Effects noticed after about 40 miles. Engine is a 3.1 turbo intercooled 4 pot diesel. 135000 miles on clock serviced but no major repairs etc.

Re: SuperFuelMax??

I have a Flowscan consumtion gauge that I plan to install measuring fuel consumtion on SB engine next winter. I'll talk to the FuelMax guy and see if he is willing to take part in a
test, consumption before/after FuelMax. I'm very suspicious
conserning everything that in my opinion fall in the cathegory "TV-Shop stuff". My old Volvos (1300hrs) are however putting out a considerable smoke screen at cold starts, so a reduction would be welcome. I have not tried additives, maybe I should. What is the cost picture? Do the savings in consumption justify purchase of additive. I'm burning abt 13000 l/season.

Re: SuperFuelMax??

Cost is dependant on where you buy it from. In the CI it adds about 0.8p per litre or 3.6p per gallon on to your fuel bill. Small price to pay for a clean transom if you see what boatsoap cost these days plus ensures you never get the bug and your fuel is in tip top condition. Fuel consumption is difficult to prove unless you are doing long journeys but we have people that have seen the evidence. Either way its up to you, alot of people swear by Soltron and some swear at it (99.9% of which have never tried it of course). The choice is yours altho it is not expensive to try and if you dont like it dont use it again, simple as that.

Re: SuperFuelMax??

Yes but that i not because of me that is because people have tried it and found out that it is not home brew snake oil after all and it does work.

All the pain and suffering to give them what they now realise is worth it. Its a hard life sometimes ;-)

Magic stuff in petrol

Hi
I put some of Doms Soltron in my twin petrol mercruisers about 10 days ago slightly over the stated does ,because i over estimated the littlie measuring container at the top, took the boat out yesterday afternoon and should have used about 1/4 of a tank but when i came back it showed i had used less , i know gagues are a bit hit and miss ,but the needle did show i had used less fuel,as regards to smoke mine didnt in the first place ,and it hasnt made it any quieter not that they are noisey, i guess only time will tell.

Next time take her up to full speed I know this will screw up the economy figures but check the performance levels.
