Hi Eddie

I can't help you with your problem but perhaps you can help me with mine. I also own a Euromarine depth sounder model seasearcher twin. It has to be at least twenty years old. My predicament is it needs replacing but I am unable to locate a seasearcher supplier. Can you help? I am located in Australia but could obviously source a replacement anywhere in the world. My depth sounder was made in England. I have tried to retain existing transducer (for obvious reasons) and replace the sounder with a different type. However electronic shops advise that the seasearcher sounder & transducer run at different frequencies to available models. Do you know if this is the case? I would prefer to get another seasearcher sounder assuming they are still made and are compatible with my existing transducer.

Regards

Geoff

Sorry its taken so long to get back to you. I have had no luck in finding out any thing about seasearcher echosounders. The transducer that I have been playing with is from a seafarer and it works ok so you should be able to use a seafarer unit with your old tranducer.

I am not familiar with the Euromarine sounders, but the Seafarer transducers worked at 150khz. Modern sounders usually work at 200Khz or higher, so that they are not interchangeable with the older types. However, if the Euromarine works OK using your seafarer transducer then Euromarine presumably uses the same frequency.

But with the low cost and higher specs of modern sounders, why bother? A basic Nasa costs around £75, and for another £30 you can get a basic Fishfinder which gives lots more information about the bottom for anchoring, drying out etc. They find fish too!

But if its not there in the first place?

Oh dear! Well they ARE called 'Fishfinders', and arguably can you expect to 'find' something thats not there in the first place....

I wonder if Trading Standards might make a case for misleading advertising, on behalf of frustrated anglers?
