I used to have seafarers in two sailings schools I worked at. Very good dayboats with the option to camp. Big cockpit and excellent in windy conditions when we would use them instead of wayferers. Lifting keel works on a drum and lifting rudder too. We used to use seagull outboards to shove them along if there was no wind. No bad habits, not flying machines and when we bought them in the early 80's I didn't think they were too expensive. We had slab reefing and a Jib and Genoa for teaching purposes although a furler would be a simple job to fit. The mainsheet track ran across the transom. We had them at Knott End Sailing Centre on the River Wyre where we would often use them to sail across the bay to Piel and Walney Isles as well as round to Glasson Dock on the Lune. We had a Safety/Escort boat in attendance but they were great for primary and secondary students and easy boats to teach on. I used to take one out with my family on days off .They haven't a lot in the way of Bouyancy and you would be well advised to either fit bags or panel them up and slot in some polystyrene. I cannot remember the name of the gent who built them then but it was somewhere along the welsh border - may have been Gloucestershire but I didn't think it was that far south - AHHH Povey Marine!!! The Alzheimers hasn't quite got me yet.
So good on lakes and estuaries for day sailing and dinghy cruising - Frank & Margaret Dye style, great for teaching - well mannered little boat that can be left on a mooring as long as you beef up and pad the foredeck cleat.
