Very nice people and nice place. Blinking expensive, though. Having settled on the canal I have thrown away my bit of paper with the costs of everywhere I could think of written on it. However, a quick look at the Kilmelford website says £156 per metre for the summer. That's almost exactly what my mooring at PB costs me for the year (£55 to the MA and £100 for servicing). Crinan is about the same. Kerrara is a lot more.

Only two posts to go, WildThyme ...
They are lovely at Kilmelford - we used their shed one winter. Leaked a bit unfortunately and interesting hoist but very friendly people.

The hoist is more than interesting. IIRC it's a Caterpillar D8 pulling a kind of steel go-kart affair, it looked proper scary but perhaps the reality is better?

Ah ha. I will do some posting and see if I can PM you. Looking for a swinging home for our labour of love for the summer - her varnish hates rubbing up against fenders in a marina and she weighs about 10 tons. Thank you for your connection. View attachment 111530
You didn't happen to be in Portavadie last year? I'm almost sure I've seen you there and thought that's a very nice boat but would be a bugger to keep clean

We spent the winter in Portavadie 18-19 after we did the Round the Island race down south then they weren't able to lift us in Holy Loch - problem with their hoist. Actually, haven't had to varnish her for 5 years and she is has 90 gallons of epoxy in her hull so pretty much like a glass fibre boat but stronger, lighter and, dare I say, prettier. Ron Holland supervised her build basically to his Swan 42 design so she goes well too.

Hazarding a guess were you on F1 by any chance? I’m sure you were on an inside berth?

Only 11 days in England, and about the same in Wales. Only the Scots get a longer sentence without parole
37 days to go and counting ..... The idea that it will make no difference what we Scots do, the variants from rUK can't be kept out so we might as well synchronise with them, is persuasive. On the other hand ca'ing canny and using rUK as guinea pigs may prove to be a better strategy and one that even with my limited time left in this world I am in accord. In common with John Prescott (remember him?) I have had two jags so am as personally prepared as I can be, I just wish I had more bits of boat and tools at home - fids, ropes, pop-rivetter(vang has been re-roped) - to play with. Had the lawnmower out yesterday!

I’m quite happy to wait an extra couple of weeks. Repeatedly this virus has shown us the cost of rushing things. If being patient for a few more weeks saves a handful of lives then good. Equally if by being patient we avoid yet another lockdown then very good. After all what’s a few weeks in the great scheme of things.

Does lifting out count ?

That’s us lifted out, antifouled and relaunched - in accordance with the bookings made with the yard back in October.

So all we need now is Nicola to see sense and lift the legal shackles on the Scots, show some trust and allow us to travel within our nation - like the Welsh can from today and the English from Monday

Must be nice to have people to do these things! I'm surprised you have that level of trust.

I honestly beleive that most of the population is all ready going about their business. The roads seem practically back to normal now, just without the queues around shopping centres.

I think the big issue with that is still the variation. Much of Scotland is doing well (7-day averages cases: 24 in Dumfries and Galloway, 7 in Argyll and Bute, 21 in Highland, 36 in Inverclyde) but the situation is still dire across the west Central Belt (107 in Glasgow, 132 in North Lanarkshire, 201 in West Lothian).

Edinburgh isn't too bad, but I really don't think it's time yet for unrestricted travel.

That is a very good argument for why the hell are we not already back into the tier system with those low case areas in a lower tier as appropriate?

Holding the whole mainland in tier 4 has no further justification. the tier system would stop travel to higher tier areas.

We are just waiting for a weather window to anti foul (a bit less cold and less windy please) then it's mast up and launch.
