Salty\'s - 7pm sitting misery!!
I have never been a big fan of booking the 7pm sitting at a restaurant, becasue you are constantly aware through your dinner that the restaurant is desperate to 'process' you and get you kicked out onto the street by 9pm. A recent trip to Salty's in Yarmouth (last Saturday) brought this experience to a new all-time low. I have always been a fan of Salty's as I believe that they offer excellent sea food albeit at London prices, however the customer service was absolutely attrocious! None of the waiting staff smiled during the entire time we were there (although thankfully that didn't stop our party from enjoying ourselves), and then from around 8.30pm onwards there was a continual onslaught of comments along the line of 'I really need to rush you', 'I have a group of eight waiting for your table' (even though the rest of the restaurant was pretty empty). It is the only time that I can remember when I have been made to feel like a number in a public service queue. If I had been a punter in the local MacDonalds, I think the customer service would have been better!
Thankfully, my faith in customer service was restored when we went to The George Hotel immediately afterwards for a drink - fantastic service and banter all round.
Lesson to be learnt: either book a 9pm sitting if you eat at Salty's OR forget it altogether and eat somewhere where the staff are genuinely pleased to see you.
