I have a sailor rt144b sitting on the side for a few years it's in good condition...no significant corrosion.... All of a sudden the sound it just coming out of the handset speaker (not the main speaker) other then that it seems to work ok...

I've check it over as best I can.. and the switch that detects if the handset is back in carrier is working (as removing handset disables dual watch)....

Does anyone know if audio when receiving....comes out of the main speaker and the handset speaker (suggesting just main speaker is gone) or if it switches from main speaker to handset speaker ( suggesting something else)

And any recommendations for a repair shop.near Portsmouth

If I had more spare time (I wish) I'd take a look... but for now I would suggest giving Nevada Radio a call.. They're just off the top of the Eastern Road in Farlington, not far beyond the big Sainsburys..

https://www.nevadaradio.co.uk/

Sale and repair of a huge range of radio kit... and a great place to buy your antennas, cables and plugs etc..

From a quick look at the circuit it seems that the handset speaker is fed from the input side of the main loudspeaker amplifier so if you can hear a signal on the handset but not on the loudspeaker the fault is likely to be in the loudspeaker amplifier or the loudspeaker.
