I'm considering doing this and wondered if anyone else has done this ... and what were the things to take into consideration?

well obviously it would have to be a mountain goat, in order to be able to stand on the heeling deck
When you have a goat in your garden it is usually tied to a post, so it can walk in circles. However on your boat you need to tie it to the mast - and a strong point near the spray hood with a continuous line that forms a kind of triangle so the goat can only walk in an oval pattern, otherwise it will fall overboard. It would also be better to plant a lawn on the foredeck, although neglecting the teak decking can often acheive the same effect.

I'aint got a teak deak, would it be advisable to invest in one or would some astro turf perhaps be a cheaper substitute? Its quite an old goat ..

Perhaps some astroturf, or maybe even paint the decks with some of that non slip stuf and sprinkle in some grass seed instead of sand?

hmm ... good move, though, on the goat's part? might get further than bembridge, me thinks ...

I've sailed with an old goat for years! She's getting better on the helm cooks a mean breakfast and never visits this web site!

Joshua Slocum was given one while sailing Spray around the world.
It ate his chart of the West Indies.

So, do not let your goat navigate or go anywhere near the chart table.

Planting a lawn on the foredeck was an idea I had for the dog to pee on. I wondered if astroturf would fool her. I suppose a tleast the goat could eat the real grass. ( would also probably try to eat the plastic grass as well)

No, but I've sailed to a small island in the Dodecanese where you had to radio ahead to let them know how many persons were on board so they knew what size goat to dispatch for dinner. Slightly unnerving eating crunchy goat with the mother and sibs bleating in the field next to the Taverna. "Of course we're not eating goat" was treated with great suspicion by the childrennnnn

....was'nt it the Ancient Greeks who said 'women for children,....second thoughts, I'd be kimmmed.
