Sorry, I've read your post a couple of times, but your question is unclear. "setting up a social media location" - ie setting up a new platform such as a Facebook/ this forum/Instagram alternative? best of luck.

Whether or not someone drinks onboard of an evening is of little consequence to me and I cannot for the life of me imagine it an issue*. I know quite a few people that no longer drink.

*the only exception is if you make it the centre and entirety of your personality e.g some vegans who, make their dietry choice their principle point of conversion.

I can imagine that if your previous sailing social circle revolved around drinking, that if your give up drinking but find it hard to be in the presence of others drinking without joining in that this could indeed have an impact on your sailing. That said, I think it could actually rejuvinate your actual sailing - more time afloat, less time in the pub?

I'm pretty sure sailing while on smack is worse than sailing tiddly 🤔
Och, c’moan - you’re only smoking it.

[for reference it’s a quote from a Scottish health board tv AD in the 90(?) warning against the dangers of heroin. I’m not advocating its use. Obviously ]

The question is whether the same level of conviviality can be achieved among non-drinkers and whether the OP will be able to find this online. For many of us, company and enough alcohol to get a bit cheerful is a habit we would be loath to break, but it would be churlish to criticise someone who wants to exercise more restraint, so long as they don’t start preaching about it. The trouble with abstinent groups of this and other kinds is that they tend to attract people who want to impose their standards on others. Excess is clearly an individual and social problem, but most of us manage well enough. I’m thinking of starting a Facebook page for moderate eaters, where we will delight in showing photos of our plates hardly filled.

The day after might be less fun though, especially if there's a quartering sea 😄
If you’ve had a lot, I expect so. For me personally, I wouldn’t be comfortable on board having drunk enough for a hangover. On the plus side, a quartering sea is no bother on a fast multi, but you’d want your wits about you. The game is how long can you surf on one wave, and how fast can you go.

AFAICT having a lot is the general gist...
I only have anything to drink if we're tied up in a marina, and even then I can't be doing with a hangover anymore so I'm pretty much in the temperance camp. Plus the heave on the beam reach home and swells off Selsey/Eastborough are bad enough without starting off feeling green around the gills 😄.

Maybe a channel about abstaining from marinas. Or tying people up?

OTOH if I was tied up in a marina I might want to be drunk, because of The Shame.
