Can someone remind me of the name for the plastic plate that fits flush with the hull to cover the space around a saildrive unit.
Anyone know where I might get one for a Volvo 120S Saildrive on a Beneateau ?
thanks in advance

"Engine well" is the common name, has to be trimmed to fit the hull internal curve then glassed in place with epoxy resin, made easy if you add a fillet of micro balloons around the base prior to adding fabric.

I think you are referring to what Volvo call the collar. This is the rectangular rubber piece that fits flush with the hull (glued on) with the lower end of the saildrive unit and propeller sticking out below. It is not designed to be watertight (in fact it has a drainage hole in it) but streamlines the hull by covering over the hole around the unit. It’s not essential – I had one fall off and only replaced it at the end of the season. I have seen some boats with home made versions of this collar, including plastic ones but it should be flexible to allow for movement of the engine/saildrive on the mounts so plastic is not ideal.

The circular rubber seal you can see from inside is the very important bit that prevents water entering the boat.

As mentioned by JohnL, Keypart are a useful source of Volvo replacement parts. They are often able to provide cheaper alternatives. You can view their web site here.

Hi Bugs, I make this rectangular rubber piece from rubber sheet bought
from a company called RS components. They have a website at rswww.com
and deal with the public through a subsidiary called Electromail-very efficient.
I clean the hull and stick it in place with Evostik or similar contact adhesive.
Antifoul over the edge.
