On another subject, Ive never had a problem with sails getting mouldy. Normally I remove my furling genoa each time I leave my boat. My newish boat has a much bigger one and in early July I left it on for a couple of weeks. when I unfurled it it was showing signs of mould along the luff probably where I furled it too tightly. ( I did this to make sure the bugger did not catch in the wind while on a mooring buoy.
Is this a bigger problem further north in a slightly different climate or is it possibly a sail material issue. best ways to remove it ?. Is there something one can spray or brush on the sails to help prevent it. It happened in a couple of weeks. When I bought the boat I noticed it was covered in algae or lichen. Going back to my days in Scotland I recall much more Lichen growth on trees from memory due to a better cleaner atmosphere than doon south.
Perhaps I need to get them professionally cleaned sooner rather than later. any recommendations of somewhere around Oban.
