Solitaire, I don't understand your issue regarding the Sun Coast line, it doesn't pop-up and interfere with your browsing so I can't see a problem.
Clive has helped me out in past as well as many others all for no commercial gain. Several have visited his retirement location, without having training and although I suspect could be jealous of what he's done have no problem. I will visit just as soon as I can tear my nose from the grindstone long enough.
Not only do the overall community (apart from you) have no issue with the Sun Coast line neither does Kim and IPC themselves and after all it's their toy and we play with it by their rules.

even if IPC want to pay a for a 13 week run of prime-time TV ads for SunCoast during Coronation Street and full page spreads in the Sunday Times

I wouldn't object to such an order being booked through my ad agency, the 15% ad agency handling commission I would pick up from the Times & TV companies would be very welcome indeed.

Yeah! Well! If there's anyone out there liable to place that kinda of advertising order, I will sit on my head on a pile of Poo in a sin bin for it. Chances are pretty remote though in all my years I have only ever met one Yottie spending that sort of volume. He did however place a million squids worth through us over the course of a year which helped pay a few bills I can tell you.

What product were you searching for? If you were looking for the RX70 then you would not have found it because the RIB is called the SX70.

Specifically with regard to Clive, he was a long-term forum user here as a boatowner long before he decided to make a million by spending two million in joining the marine industry.

I agree a couple of his posts have come close to contravening rules (the IBI press release enthusiasm managed to come close to lifting my Nelsonian eye patch). However, if I refused everyone with a commercial interest to place posts here, then MBC would be a poorer place for it. We try to strike a sensible balance and if that wobbles very slightly it is only a temporary state of affairs.

In many respects I would rather the company name is on the bottom of the post so that any vested interest is made obvious. There have been instances (not too many) where companies have posed as individuals in a rather underhand way and I am personally rather more worried by that. Having said that, I also accept the fact that there are plenty of boatowners who also work in the marine trade and who prefer to post responsibly as private individuals.

Regarding the URL signature (Clive, no doubt you are reading this), we do politely request that people who use live links in signature lines in the forum should return the compliment by providing a live link to ybw.com on their sites.

Finally, Duncan and I had a sensible exchange over what turned out to be a misunderstanding on my part. I treated him no differently to anyone else.

David,

You're misinterpreting some of my comments, a bit like you did when I made a tongue in cheek comment about training not assisting mobo's giving yachts a wide berth, and received a lecture on how irresponsible I was accompanied by mass cut and pastes of entire syllabus of RYA training.

I specifically said long time poster, not long time member. You've been registered a while, but haven't been a regular poster until recently.

I also did not say you were advertising your services(as well as saying it was perfectly reasonable). I said that it could be construed, if someone wanted to see it that way. I was making the point that it's a fine line, not discussing the implications of having a training certificate.

PS how was the first day's training

Err, let me know if Depsol enters the forum, I'll go and hide

Really? Surely it's not worth the effort. They must buy all the bits in and stick 'em together.

I noticed at the LBS that Fairline also do their own (rebadged?) rib.

remember they're brunswick. it could be a rebadged brunswick product. I agree it would be absurd for them to develop their own from scratch with their tiny volume and even tinier distribution channels

Re: SX70

Well, for no other reason than to say what I said before, it is Sealine's own tooling for the hull. As with any RIB it would be true that they buy in the tubes and engine and so on but it is not a rebadged Brunswick product. Only know that because I asked.

Not sure of this is partially the reason but having control of the dinghy size is probably very helpful when designing it as use as tender for certain motherships.

As for the Fairline one I don't know the answer to origin.
