Surely it's just a rib made by someone else with a Sealine badge on it? In which case you could probably get the same thing cheaper without Sealine written on it. A definite win win IMHO!

Peter, you know as well as I do that our friend from **n ****t is indulging in, what is termed in the Internet world, Gorilla marketing. That is, using a forum for free advertising to a captive/highly targeted audience. I had a look on Google prior to this posting, and it came up with silch on the product. A nice, cheap way of introducing something upon which to have a "oh what's this?" type thread.
What you offer is a non commercial service and as such is of overall public interest: our friend is looking to build a brand and not have to pay for it.

Note for Kim: You limit the Sale forum to £200 and gave a warning to Duncan recently regarding a comment about the potential offering of his boat. I feel, that if people wish to operate in the forum, it should be as individuals not companies, let alone have their company names on the bottom of the post. Many people complained about the Jag Pop Up recently, well at least they (Jaguar) paid for the priveledge of reaching a very targeted, (supposedly/forums/images/icons/wink.gif) affluent market. So why should a company directly connected with this market not have to pay?

As you know, depends on the key words you put in! I simply used Sealine RX70 - silly me and I only looked at the first page of the search! Oopps, fallen into the trap/forums/images/icons/wink.gif.

Why on earth are you picking on one individual, we have had stuff rammed down our throats from plenty of others, especially one in particular. I am more than aware of their games and have mentioned it previously, but I happen to like Clive as I feel he is a genuine guy who spent some time introducing me to boating, and whom I have never seen have a bad word with anybody. Some others, well they have certainly had their fair share of free publicity and shown their true colours, haven't they /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

I'm not picking on an individual - the registered name is a company! Who's Clive? I did see an early posting this week from "this" company directing us to a web site where there was yet more promotion of the company - better hurray it said, as they change the info quickly. I'll be honest and say that p*****d me off more than anything. The forum is, IMHO, not a platform for free PR by any company and in the main it is not used as such. I think that overall IPC are very tolerant, partcularly as they have their own e-commerce chandlery and yet never blank references by INDIVIDUALS to competitive sites etc.

>>Who's Clive?<<

Sun Coast, better know to regulars as Clive Neighbour. Long time poster here before he was involved in setting up the training school. As a long time poster, many have a genuine interest in what he's doing, and how he's getting on.

You're letting people know that you are about to become an instructor in another thread. Perfectly reasonable, though it could be construed that you are advertising the fact that your services are about to become available. It's a fine line.

Fine, no problem with that, but then he should have stayed as an individual and not re registered on 27/01/2003 as a company. That's not a long term poster, it's a blatant attempt to promote the company. As to being a long term member of this forum, check out when I first registered.
As to your suggestion that I am advertising my services, I should point out that under the rules, only the principle of an RYA recognised sea school may issue certificates. My having gained the qualification is meaningless unless I'm affiliated to such a school or decide to set up my own operation and gain the recognition. As the later is unlikely, certainly for the forseeable future, and the former depends on suitable "employment" being available, there is no line at all.

Re:Thanks guys

Thanks to Brendan & Happy for your kind response to Davids (Solitaire) comments.
I see David that you are an MD for a promotional marketing company. Could this have some bearing on your comments, given that as it is your job to promote & market products then you may well misconstrue my thread, as I imagine such activity must naturally fill your thoughts.

Firstly the question I posed re the RX70 was due to the fact that I saw one on the Sealine web site, I am considering buying a rib for personnal use ,and not having had experience of ribs & things, I thought I'd ask my friends on the forum as frankly the thing looked a bit gimmicky.

The other day I asked opinion about a Neptunus 65 and again on another thread about a Nimbus 35, was I activily promoting these makes of boat? I think not

As Brendan states I have been posting on this forum for several years firstly as
cneighbour and then upon my retirement and setting up the sea school as Sun_Coast. The latter action you would naturally look upon as being commercially motivated. Not so. it is designed to provide information to my forum friends who a) may be interested in what I'm doing although modesty forbids me from suggesting such or b) they may like to use the school
I have had visits from forum members already none of which came to do a course (they're all experienced already) just for a social visit.

I would remind you that I came to Spain to retire and have a boat on the water in any case, the sea school was incidental to such plans.

So after all that have you an opinion re the RX70? or should a look at more traditional ribs for a bit for fun.

Re:Thanks guys

I presume this is Clive? Clive, I'll get back to you with a fuller response later. I just thought I would respnd now to show that I'm not ducking the issue, I'm off for the first day of the course/forums/images/icons/smile.gif.
However as far as the rib is concerned. I have no particular view either way, but I like you (you think its perhaps a bit gimiky) would look at it more as a "toy" than a serious rib. But as you are looking to use if for some "fun in the sun", I think it would be great.

As Arnie once said - "I'll be back"

Regards

David

I take exception on your unprovoked attack on Clive, he was only asking for advice on the suitability of a Rib for his own use, as for having his Sea School mentioned at the bottom of his post if you take exception to that you will soon run out of friends on here as a number do similar, perhaps you should be more selective who you reply to.

As for Clive getting free PR by posting his Sea School name with each post, if you did your research you would find that Sun Coast Sea School does pay to advertise in IPC magazines, his adverts indirectly help to keep forums like this running and free for you to use.

And as for running to KIM

Take a chill pill

Agree with all here that Clive is a long time poster and most of us are interested in what he is doing. Seems to me he has asked a genuine question with no hint of marketing.

PS by the way his company does pay for advertising in MBY and therefore is directly subsidising the price of the publication for you and I and this web forum!!!

I have used the Avon!

Lots of fun, very noisy, hard to steer, very fast, too small for power, lots of fun again but if I had to buy one I would rather have a bigger rib with an outboard! For less money.

Tom

P.s. I have no company to promote (I work for ipc, no need for promotion) And I would not pick on any one that is trying to contribute to this forum, we can all make our own minds on each and every post!

Right - now you lot have got that out of your systems - have a look on the following site http://www.rib.net - I'm sure the forum there will be more able to answer and probably throw some suitable suggestions in. /forums/images/icons/blush.gif

... too late now, I've bought the boat... must remember the kill cord next time!!

Hi Clive

There is a brand new one next to me in the marina - I have been out on it a few times....it's, errm.....not very good! The engine is under the 'helm' seat (as opposed to further forward in Zodiac) and as such vibrates your b***s off! There are also some very poor materials used and the one I mention has a list of faults including an air leak, bucket sticking etc., etc. If you want a jet rib I would suggest going for an Avon or Zodiac.

However, a point worth making is another mate has a Zodiac Jet rib and it takes more petrol than my Range Rover and runs out quicker! Maybe a Rib with OB maybe better value and cheaper to run?

It's not the preroagative imho of posters like you or me to complain. It's a free country and this isn't our webspace. Kim and Tom and the crew draw a line between the commercial promotion they will/wont allow. Where they draw it is entirely their choice. They have chosen to allow Suncoast to mention and promote the school a bit, and that's just fine, 'tis a free world. We have no business objecting even if IPC want to pay a for a 13 week run of prime-time TV ads for SunCoast during Coronation Street and full page spreads in the Sunday Times, it's their game/money and really they are free to choose whatever they want.

Just my "free country" $0.02c :)
