At last the engine i have been rebuilding with many problems along the way is running. and sounds great and well, for a short time.
I dont want to run much yet untill its run in properly/more. As its a boat engine now being a Volvo Penta AQ130C its not the same as running in a car. doing 5000miles low revs etc etc.

How should i go about running it in on a stand ? fast revs short time, long time low revs ?

If you can't put a load on it don't run it for long, you'll just end up glazing the bores and losing compression.
I hope you are going to sort that raw water pump leak.

Sounds good. I'm no expert but I think you would be safer letting it suck it's collant out of a bucket or something rather than a hosepipe in case you flood the bores

the raw water from the pump was because of the hose. only water leak is from one top outlet and te drain. Its running off a tub now and drawing own water. i was that shattered i just wanted to fire it up. all good though.

Best way is get it in the boat an use it as intended. Gentle running maybe but not on a bench.
Running an engine under no load seems to me not the best plan.

I think the last new car I had that the manufacturer recommended gentle running for the first 1500 miles was 30 odd years ago.

The manual (AQ version) stated:

The engine oil recommendation just states 10W30 so any not-too-advanced oil, with a viscosity not too far from 10 and 30, will do.

Is tat from the original workshop manual ? If so its not in my print off. i printed and laminated the whole workshop manual.
Thinking though, with me i probably missed a page or two haha. thanks for that,

It's the Operator's manual for AQ1xx series

Volvo penta AQ120 Manuals | ManualsLib

Same but different from mine. still ill not be running it now for bedding in until its afloat, but for timing it with my strobe and fine tune the carbs.
Thanks kida ;)

EErrmm its petrol so not sure i should follow that advice.

I am using 10w30 now for running in and will be for a while as its in the engine specs. And likley will be for the future as dont need thicker oil yet.

So all to do is set/check timing, tweek carbs and fit them :)

thanks guys for the help.

As long as the engine is within specs the specified oil will keep it happy for ages.
If the engine has issues you may try snake oil additives until you repair it, but there is no such thing as a mechanic in a bottle
