I use Seatty. It is cheap (about 25 quid) and does WeatherFax and Navtex as well. There are a few shareware programs that are popular, but these tend to be a bit harder to set up as they allow you more control.
JVCom 32 is a good application. will receive RTTY, weatherfax and NAvtex as well as a few other modes.
Its free off internet but does put a line of text on the output to pursuade you to buy a copy.
Also the speed setting is manual and not automatic
MSMeteo also do a RTTY application which is similar in capability but has automatic speed setting. Think they have 2 separate applications, one for RTTY and Navtex and the other for weatherfax
Again this is free but does put some text on output.
Yes we have all three but the best is SeaTTY (the latest version does Fax, Navtex and RTTY as well now, at least when registered) IMO though JVComms is also good. The MScan Meteo demo puts so much demo overwrite on the screen (and misses lines in RTTY deliberately) to stop unregistered use that it is self defeating as a trial, it is also much more expensive to register if you wanted to.
Yep, JVComm32 is excellent and free for the Demo version. As others have noted, this version does place a line of 'demos' down the page (only on Wefaxes) but this in no way prevents it's use. The 'Demo' on the RTTY etc is horizontal between the normal lines, so is totally unabtrusive.
We have used JVComm for the last several years whilst full time cruising in preference to Seatty/MScan Meteo etc, but as always, it's a matter of personal preference.
Frankly, we do not even use JVComm for RTTY as there is a FAR better free programme - MMTTY!! Google for this, download it (it's a full version) and you won't ever use other software. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
It has, for us, one huge advantage, the font can be set at whatever size you want, and the background/font colours can be selected to give maximum contrast. For example, we have a yellow background with a bold black font to give wonderful contrast for when your eyes are tired. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
We find it performs in marginal conditions that test even JVComm, so do try it!!
"Best" is open to interpretation. If you receiver can be PC controlled then I would suggest Bonito RadioCom 5 is best as all you have to do is click on the station/frequency you want to receive in the software's station database and the software automatically sets everything up for correct reception. RadioCom decodes and saves the messages in a format viewable and editable in MS Word. Radiocom will also decode and save "actuals" from shipping which is retransmitted by DWD. If your receiver cannot be PC controlled, then the downloadable applications suggested by other respondants are as good as any for standard RTTY broadcasts.
Agree, if only RTTY wanted then MMTTY outstrips everything else, it being the yardstick application against which others are compared in reviews. And is free for non commercial use.
