I am at this vry moment unpacking the info from the insurance company. But it's not good news for you.
It says here that the boat is insured for up to 3million quid third party. However, we haven't had any parties at all yet, and if you were making bread at the time, well, it can't really have been much of a party - hence I imagine it's not covered.
However, a claim for injury sustained whilst (say) opening bottles during the *third* party would probably be ok. There again, if as it says quite clearly, their liabilty is three million quid for that party it would be a shame if you spoil such a fabulous bash whingeing about bread-making injuries, and we could get posh party staff to make the bread anyway? Or possibly hire a party osteopath if there are such people.
This is a tricky one, but I think you need to start with your "employer", presumably the owner of the boat - although I have a sneaking suspicion that this will turn out to be a holding company in Luxembourg or Gibraltar. Questions you should be asking include: Has a risk assessment for this activity been caried out and what measures have been taken to minimise the risk? Do the many hours of kneading, required to produce dough of a suitable consistency, breach the requirements of the Working Time Regulations, particularly if it has to be done at night? Does your employer carry full employer's liability cover? If not, can he afford to pay you proper compensation, or will you knead to find some extra dough? (sorry....)
I should begin by asking these questions, although I should warn you that this may prompt your employer to get rid of his existing crew, and replace you all with Philippinos, who will cost far less in wages and won't get all lippy with him.
On a separate subject: do you know if he has a suitable employee pension scheme, and is it in deficit? Not sure how you will work this out /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif.
