Any thoughts on wether this Ronseal product would be any good for the cabin sole?
Anyone used it at home?

What would you use for a satin fnish on your cabin sole?

Thanks in advance.

Yep:

I did exactly that on the first 2 floor sections at the bottom of my companionway. They are Teak with Holy inlay and were water stained so I striped them back lightly sanded and about 4 coats later including Silver sand in 3 sections they are fine and have done all season without a hitch or mark. I will give them a further light sand and 2 more coats over this winter.

The beauty is you can overcoat in a few hours and wash the brushes under the tap. (I used satin finish)

Best of luck…. Peter

I have used the gloss and the satin versions on parquet flooring at home. Got rid of old varnish using an orbital sander using progressively finer grades of sanding discs, then wiped over the floor with white spirit to remove fine dust, and then applied 4-5 coats of Ronseal. I didn't bother sanding between coats. Quick drying, virtually odourless and easy to clean out brushes afterwards. Have moved chairs and tables over it for the last 6 months and it has remained scratch-free. The satin finish has a less shiny appearance (obviously!) and is more subtle than the gloss finish which tends to look 'wet' all the time.

I used this product;

1.5 litres was sufficient for 2 coats on the floor. I took all the floor panels home and di them in my garage. The solvent has avery strong odour, you would not be able to use it inside the boat. The end result is very very hard and hard wearing.

I tried unsuccessfully to use the water based varnish but some small amount of dampness on one area before it was perectly dry caused it to stain white.

Regards

Use the satin finish both at work for wooden floors and to restore our badly damaged cabin sole. found best applied quickly with a varnish roller to leave a slightly dimppled effect. has proved to be very hard wearing. So will not be recovering this year

I used the Ronseal Diamond Hard on our cabin sole boards a few years ago and it is extremely hard. The gloss dries a little "milkier" than conventional varnish but barely noticeable. I've been surprised that it hasn't suffered even under wet feet - although that doesn't happen very often and is usually fresh water when it does.

Water based varnishes are very good provided they are fully cured before getting any moisture on them. As someone has already said they will go milky if they get wet / damp before cured. You should also be a bit careful how you clean them as some detergents will damage the finish. Use a product for wooden floors and there shouldn't be a problem.

Yes! used it for several years and alway's impressed by results and longevity, both on cabin floors and internal woodwork.. SWMBO does not like a gloss finish! and is happier using waterbased products, has reaction from spirit based product. Brushes last a lot longer!!
