Ahem, er I haven't read every single post on this subject, but am asking for a recap, namely, have CMP said what grade of steel will be used for the new anchors, and is this any worse/better than the grade used in Manson?
As a detailed answer to this:
Manson Supreme is using Q&T800 Steel.
http://www.manson-marine.co.nz/SitePages/SupConstruction.htm
This was what was originally specified by the Rocna designer as being the minimum strength of steel required for the rocna design to function correctly.
CMP have stated that the Rocna anchor will now be manufactured from Q620 steel (Oh, hang on, can't find a link anywhere on their website where they'll tell you what it's going to be made from! ) - They would appear to have the designer's agreement that this is "ok", despite his earlier vehement assertions that only Q&T800 would do.
Q620 is generally assumed to be an inferior quality of steel.
The potential savings in using this quality of steel have presumably not been passed on to the end customer. In the UK, at least, the Rocna is still considerably more expensive than the Manson...
