I need a set of lifting slings (4 point) for my tender, found some on the web, but can't believe the price, over £100. Some on fleabay, but not long enough.
Has anybody got any suggestions, please?
Cheers

have you considered industrial lifting fittings ?

I know these people from old. Good honest advice.

I'd talk to JB - he re-did my webbing strap that was used to pull the jetski into the garage.

He can make that up in aflash. Not sure the cost is that bad really though.

If you want his number I have it.

Make some. If you/swmbo can use a sewing machine then buy some webbing and the necessary fittings from a swindlery. If not, just make it out of rope, spliced ends look better, but knots will work fine. Use some old rope to work out the lengths you need, then the one you make doesn't need to be adjustable.

Thanks guys,
Not sure who JB is ?
Had a look on Salty John's site, but they are not long enough, I need 2 @ 28" and 2@ 38".
I did think about using light weight st/st chain ?
Swimbo is rubbish at sewing and I'm worse !

You can get wire rope made up to length, best to use plastic coated stuff, but wouldn't be much cheaper by the time you've paid for 8 swaged ends, and webbing is nicer to handle. Can you splice 3 strand rope? It's very easy, so you could make one up yourself out of, say, 8mm polyester rope.

I bought 25mm nylon webbing off fleabay for about tuppence for 50 metres. This was then cut to length and loops hand sewn into the ends and snap shackles from the swindlers added. It used to lift our Rhino Rider with no bother. Where are you based? I still have about 30m of the stuff on a roll on the boat...

Wiggo, kind offer, thank you.
Would you believe, Im taking Rhino to JB covers on Tuesday, for a new custom cover, I will talk to him about the lifting straps at the same time.
I was given his number by Rib Shack, who recommended him for covers, didn't think about the straps ! Doh..
Thanks to everyone.

Just got Rhino back from JB, he has made the new cover and the lifting straps.
Must say, I'm delighted with the job his team has done, well reccomended.
Thanks Jim...

Hi Gents,
An earlier thread mentioned using industrial slings - good choice as people like Austim McLean or Certex will make exactly what you want, marine quality at an industrial price.
A three legged sling for our own Pacific 21 with stainless fittings was under £100.
Try them, you may be surprised.

They look just like these : http://www.saltyjohn.co.uk/davit_slings.htm
The benefit of JB is having them made the the exact length (hope I got it right).
Price was £ 65.00, top notch fitting used..
