Certainly sufficient power.

I think they topped out at about 42-44 knots with 2 x 205hp V6 4.3, stainless duo-props when new. Given the additional drag of x2 outdrives the 'effective' power of 410hp would be reduced to about 320hp.

So, another 25-30% more power should provide the additional 3-5 knots.

I can't comment of the drive ratios but there are plenty of petrol powered V8, duo-prop boats regularly achieving 50 knots, day in, day out. (not much more, mind).

So many advantages with one big petrol engine on a boat this size.

- A lot of room for maintenance (Can jump down on both sides of the engine)
- No problem with the torque to get the boat to plane with this size.
- Lower purchase price and service costs.
- The best of all, you dont have to listen to all the ticking and knocking of a diesel.
Ive got silence choise aswell if I wanna hear some good v8 engine sound at low rpm.

I would only choose diesel when the size of the boat needs the torque from a diesel to get up in plane.
If the handeling are a problem in the harbor with a single engine just install a bowthruster and the problem is solved:).

Oh jeez...I wasn’t going to comment again but couldn’t help it.
To achieve 50 knots is a real milestone. Very few boats will do 50 knots in the real world. It takes a special special hull and incredible power to get anything over 50 mph, never mind 50 knots. It’s a well known barrier.
Hulls like these...as good as they are...will take so much almost unbelievable power to break the 50 mph mark.

The cranchi someone mentioned earlier with twin 4.3s. I can just about fathom that. Fast and specialist hull and lightweight fittings. Princess like this....one of the best boats in the class...but a 50mph boat...it isn’t. Honestly now. Let’s get realistic.

My wee boat is only 18ft...has a stepped hull and a flat running pad when aired out. Coupled to a V8 MPI with cam and exhaust. She will see 63/64 mph gps usually running light and most seen was 66.7...but this is the extreme end of things and with over 300 hp. Heavy as she is at 1400kgs....a princess like this with even the 496ho or twin 4.3s....will never do 50 knots in real gps terms.

Kid. Im sorry but dont know where you got 50 knots from? Im not here to tell a dream if you think so. Im just telling the truth from my point of view.
If you cant belive it, you probably dont even have a boat.

I still believe that my engine or the new 430 petrol 6,2 volvo penta is the best option for the princess 266.

Certainly I have a boat and have been around them all my life.
Listen...each to their own but I often hear boasts about boats doing 50 mph or 50 knots or more. The reality is that most don’t.
I know what it takes to do 50, 60 and most recently just under 70. Each are serious barriers to break. Make no mistake. Would love to see a gps shot of a princess doing over 50 mph. I’ll wager where isn’t one out there. Seriously good boats they all are. We have a P385. But 50 mph machines...they aren’t.
 
Tell you what. Give us the drive ratio, props pitch and rpm at your top speed and the physics and prop slip calculator will do the rest.
